Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 Sales = 250K WW this week, BIGGEST Comeback ever?!

@--OkeyDokey--

"Somehow I think being in third place has made the PS3 a better console than it would have been. Sony's first party is phenomenal this gen. Maybe even better than Nintendo's."

I would have to agree!

Hm...60,000 ahead of Wii this week...30m behind lifetime

30,000,000/60,000

Yeah, if PS3 outsells Wii by this amount for the next 500 weeks then its the greatest comeback ever. I don't think we're going to see Wii drop below 275,000/week after the price drop. So except for the possibility of FFXIII week in Japan the order should be the DS > Wii > PS3 > 360 > PSP > PS2 for the rest of the year, although not entirely sure where to place the Go yet.

I do think there is a pretty good chance PS3 will outsell X360 each worldwide for the rest of 2009.

Keep your eye on whatever Wii does in October - when PS3 had its first price drop in early Oct 2007 it quadrupled from Oct to Nov in North America. That kind of jump is pretty likely with Wii at $200 for the first time.

My point is that its a HUGE comeback from where the console was 6 months ago & what its image was in general within the industry & people's minds.

A Comeback from the depths of hell itself.

_________

interesting wii prediction BTW

Please this is not a comeback at all. This is just a price cut / new model. If the PS3 is constantly outselling the Wii for the next 12 months then you can talk about a comeback.

p.s. Will you start a thread when PS3 will return to its normal sales?

yes, ofcourse I will.

I started a thread last year when PS3 was outsold by xbox 360 in EU massively& about killzone 2's disappointing sales

Such opportunity's cannot be missed Atma

@Kowenicki

then why did the xbox 360's price cut to $199 not see such an effect last year.....its initial effect wasn't impressive.

& its not amazing its down YTD, especially as you reminded us of that with your charts every 2 weeks throughout the last 7 - 8 months.

7 - 8 months of being down YOY can't be erased by 3 weeks up YOY.....it will be erased but not so quickly

whats more amazing is that the PS3 slim led to PS3 outselling Xbox 360's 2009 YTD in 2 weeks flat

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

so ok, now 360 is not in the competition as always has been now PS3 is competing against Wii the first place!! that's good news :D , now some Wii games will be multiplat too on the PS3.

F.U. Fun University.

^Japan (for the PS3) is about to become a serious contender, I've been telling everybody around here and they don't listen.

@atma998

What do u classify as it's normal sales... do u mean what the PS3 was selling bfore the price cut, cause that was not normal!

Before the 360 had it's price cuts last year the PS3 was constantly outselling it, at a higher price tag, too. Now they are more even, expect the PS3 to go back to outselling it constantly again.

Respect to SONY-san.

@darth

the postion it was in was 90% down to price... nothing else...

there was no media anti sony conspiracy, there was no hate, there was no image problem... only common sense purchase decisions by consumers

there is nothing miraculous about an increase in sales due to a price cut.

True, there's nothing miraculous about it.

However, I don't think many were predicting the effect of the price cut/new model to be as strong as it's been. So, while not miraculous, sales, at least as far as most vgcharters are concerned, have been pretty terrific.

I'd like to know how Sony feel right now about the figures.

If PS3 will be able to sustain 250k+ sales for the rest of year, or atleast not fall below 200k, then YES.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (sept 29) - AAA
Demons Soul (oct 6) - AAA
Afrika (oct 6)
Uncharted 2: Amoung thieves (oct 13) - AAA
Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time (oct 27) - AAA
Tekken 6 (oct) - multi
Eye Pet (nov 17)
Modern Warfare 2 (nov 10) - multi
Assasins Creed 2 (nov 17) - multi
Gof of War Collection (dec) - AAA
FFXIII in Japan (dec 17) - AAA

So, the hardest thing to do, is stay above 250k the 4th week, but even if it will sell less, it`s not big deal, as long as it will sell 250k+ with incoming releases.

isn't GOW releasing in Nov?

^the PS3 is performing "Hanzo The Razor's Special Interrogation Technique" on the competition in Japan... lol.

@darth....

now you are being silly... the 360 price cut created a massive turnaround... it created a 3 million swing over the xmas period.

Considering that PS3 > 360 for the year now after only 3 weeks, the swing this year could possibly be even bigger than that in PS3's favour.
