It's impressive that it was able to take 2009 sales back from the Xbox 360. But as for it making a significant comeback overall, still way too early to tell.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Both the 360 and Wii are down YOY. I don't recall seeing a console drop in sales after a price cut.

You're saying that it's a no brainer the PS3 is up YoY then? If so, I agree, although not every console with a price drop sees an intial boost as large as the PS3's has been.

and not every console has been as ridiculously overpriced for so long as the PS3 has been.... it was bound to be thus.

oh really?

looking at your predictions for PS3 slim sales before it launched wouldn't give me a feeling you knew it was "bound to be thus"......if I'm taking its meaning literally.

too literally .... but i'll let it go

If you didn't I'd show you a fake pic of Lost Oddesy 2......then you'll forget all about this lol

We already know the outcome of worldwide sales for the rest of the year - the Wii has it in the bag, no doubt about it.

I'm far more interested in the race between the PS3 and Wii in Japan. What is each console's YTD in Japan? Will the PS3 beat the Wii this year in Japan?

Of course it is, but I believe the majority of people posting are surely aware of such. The PS3 will be competitive, that's all, not overtake the Xbox 360 and CERTAINLY not ever overtaking the Wii. It would need to mirror the PS2 to do such a thing, and let's face it, the PS3 could never achieve what the PS2 achieved, despite being a very capable console.

I don't think the PS3 will ever surpass the 360 either, but I know the Wii is cemented in first place. At the end of the day, all I want is strong competition and all companies to do well. If the PS3 does manage to even come close to 360 sales (say 2 million gap maximum), that would be very impressive.

Well since the Wii is mirroring the PS2, PS3 would beed to mirror the DS (375k this week, now that's impressive) to overtake the Wii.

Vgcharts figures, not including this week.

Wii: 997k

PS3: 851k

A comeback is impressive when you're last and finish first.

This is not like that, is it?

Any kind of comeback is impressive if it helps the industry. The PS3 selling at a MUCH higher rate does just that

How does selling more PS3 help the industry? It helps Sony to finally make some profit, down the line i hope. But the industry?

I am not longing for anyone to cry. It's just that, well, many people will. Last year, HD twins had a fantastic line-up yet the Wii beat them up with nothing but crappiness.

Trust me, Wii will leave both Sony and Microsoft in the dust this holiday season as well. The only region I see something changing is Japan, where Nintendo has totally dropped the ball and let Sony grab all the core audience.

Again, I am on neither side. I'll line up to buy both New Super Mario Bros. and Uncharted 2. It's just that it's too late for a PS3 comeback, people need to realise that. TheSource put it amazingly simple : If the PS3 keeps outselling the Wii weekly, in 500 weeks it will get ahead...

I can understand your outlook on PS3's situation, I agree with it. But does it really matter if PS3 loses? This question is for everybody too, not just you.

in that case, does it matter if it outsells its competition for 3 weeks after getting beat up for almost 3 years? It goes both ways.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
