Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rumor: Microsoft interested in buying EA

Ok, I realise I am not a frequent poster on this forum and so don't expect everyone to read my message, but I posted something important which is being ignored!

Look about 6 messages up!!!

Yup, saw it.  I thought it nicely wrapped things up right after my post indicating trading analysts were highly doubtful.  But as others have noted, when the fans get rolling on the forums they don't like to let anything so mundane but clear get in the way.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Well after what happened to Rare i'd say if Microsoft did buy EA then it's goodbye to another decent developer

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

tronied, cheers. I hope that about raps up this episode of the "pointless whispers" show

assumption is the mother of all f**k ups

Microsoft take over EA = mass exodus just like Rare. People assume people working for EA now will want to work under Microsoft lol

If they didn't want to spend the few billion it would have taken to buy Take-Two a couple years back, there's no way EA is in their price range.

You may not be acquainted with buying things, but not thinking something is worth the money doesn't mean you'll never make a larger purchase. "I don't want to spend $35 on dinner, so clearly I will never buy a new suit." Take-Two is badly mismanaged and constantly in financial trouble. EA may be more expensive, but there's a much larger upside.

Um... wow.  They are both major gaming companies, so they are in the same category.  Dinner and a suit are completely different categories.  If Microsoft really wanted Take-Two, and the problem was their management, they would have bought them and fixed the management.  So that's a completely moot point.

Now, Electronic Arts would be exponentially more expensive to buy than Take-Two--they even submitted their own bid for Take-Two when all this was going on.  So the odds of Microsoft buying them when they didn't buy Take-Two are very, very slim.

As an aside, there are ways to make your point without sounding offensive.  You should learn them.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

i hope m$ does it, they need to make a big splash somewhere too let their supporters of the xbox brand that they are truly in this for the long haul. getting all of ea's catalog of games only on xbox would help it launch their next system with a broader lineup and exclusive one at that.

You do realize Hypothetically Speaking if MS did this godforbid... the PlayStation brand would be gone right?

IIRC, big national and international sports federations sell their licenses with the condition that games are released multiplatform on the main architectures, they won't accept their profits are damaged by console wars.

Microsoft confirm no interest in purchasing EA.

Case closed.

MS can do it just to hurt others. EA is one of 3rd parties which really *grasps* Wii, and without EA support PS3 is... doomed? xD EA is not like Activision, really. And sport games are above any in its influence, IMO. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying MS gonna do it, but MS is very aggressive, and such a move would be a epic for them xD
