Forums - Gaming Discussion - When did you realize that games could acutally be bad?

For some reason I got the chance to play E.T. for the Atari 2600 when I was 3 years old.

I hope that answers your question.

haha.. that's when it hit me too.

I was 7 years old playing a game on the NES, i can't remember the name of the game but it was the worst thing i have ever played.

The one that jumps out at me is Urban Champion. There were probably some horrid ones I played on the 2600 (actually, on the Colecovision), but I had soooo many of those thanks to the market crash, I can't recall many of the specifics.

I was growing up as a big comic fan and two games that I remember in the 8bit and 16bit era that sucked bad were Xmen for Nes and Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge for SNES. Man both those games sucked bad.

From the dozens of games on the NES I never had a complaint. A few games on the Master System were really too hard for a kid my age and spoiled a lot of the fun:My Hero, Indiana Jones. The games sucked but I didn't knew better.

The first time I really bothered about a game not being good was on the N64 when I no longer received games as a gift but actually started saving for my collection. I began to appreciate the real value of a game when I bought it with my own money. And sadly didn't appreciate a game if it was bad value. The first time I regret buying a game was Doom64 because it was overpriced and not very enjoyable. That's when I started to read reviews hehe.

A boy and his blob. But that probably wasn't the games fault. I just couldn't figure out some of the puzzles.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

A boy and his blob was... special. It wasn't bad but it was.... special.

Also, hear hear to whoever said Lord of the Rings for Snes. I rented it twice in the hopes of figuring out WTF is going on, and stopping after 4 hours.

I've always realized some games were not as good as others, but back then I had all the time in the world to spare and played through those games regardless.

Nowadays, responsibilities take up most of my time so I am much more critical of bad games and will not play through it. Hell, now I hardly have time to play through the good games!

Hmm, I can't actually remember the first bad game I played before the Playstation. I know I must have had bad games on the PCJr, NES, PC, and SNES but I think I just always told myself they were actually good games.

I mean the PCJr had things like Fraction Fever (though I liked that game) and Facemaker than couldn't have been good. The NES had terrible games like Wolverine, Kid Niki, and Mickey Mousecapade that were actually all really bad. I'm sure the SNES had bad games, I just can't remember playing any of them. I know I placed shit like Legend of Kyrandia on the PC. Even with all that crap, I still had fun with those games. The first bad game I can remember playing is probably M:tG for the PS or maybe Legend of Kain.

That being said, I'm sure if I dug out any of those above games and played them today I would be angrier than the Angry Video Game Nerd.

I actually thought Legend of Kyrandia was decent. Also when you mention Legend of Kain are you talking about Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain because that was pretty good, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was decent as well.

One of the first bad games I played that really stood out was Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes of the Lance. I was a big Dragonlance fan so I couldn't wait for the game to come out (I waited eagerly in anticipation for months). When I finally got the game home and started playing I got upset at how bad it was and actually said "What is this shit?!?". It was a pretty big letdown.

Another would have to be Ghostbusters 2. I really enjoyed the first Ghostbusters game (on Commodore 64, apparently the console versions sucked) and was extremely disappointed by the second game that was just complete crap, I was also disappointed by the second Ghostbusters movie as well.
