Forums - Gaming Discussion - Apple: PSP and DS just not cool anymore overpriced too

You guys sound like a bunch of donkeys. What do you want them to say: "we're not the best, but we're kinda putting some effort into it?" That's not how corporations work. They act like their stuff is the best because if they don't believe in their product there's no way the consumer will. Same goes for Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and, yes, every other corporation ever. None of them are brimming with humility as corporate entities even if some of their prolific employees are. Get in touch with reality.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Ha! I love it when Apple talks about anything else being overpriced.

And the college at my university just replaced all the iMacs (C2D's over 2ghz, but forgot the exact speed and ram) in one of our labs with new 2.93ghz iMacs (which look to retail for $1800 on apple.com). Not that I think that's bad or anything since they do a very good job with helping students.

Okay okay... I'm sure they got an education and large order discount as well as other deals and such that I have no clue about :P

The new slim keyboards are cool, but cost $50 or $80 on their own depending on wireless or not (bleh).

Eh, Apple is just getting bitter, that's all.

They've been trying for an awful long time to try and creep up on the Windows PCs for market share. It hasn't really worked out that well. I'm figuring that we'll start seeing attack ads going after the PSP and DS by Apple pretty soon like the ones that have been aimed at Microsoft for years.

I wont argue that the iphone/ipod touch is better gaming platform than the PSP or DS.  However, if you don't think it is a serious contender in the mobile gaming market, your simply in denial.  There are 37 million of these things out there already, and apple is currently selling them at a rate of  7 million per quarter.    VGChartz does not currently track the iphone hardware but it probably should.

There is more development being done for the iphone platform than all other mobile platforms combined.   Anyone can download the SDK for the iphone.   For $100 you can become a licenesed develper, and Apple will distribute you apps.   This has created the monstrous numbers of apps available for the iphone.  I will freely admit a lot of it is crap, but when there is that many develepors there will be some interesting apps.

My current perspective:  The iphone is the Wii of the mobile platforms.  It has come out of nowhere.  Its success is completely unexpected.  It is finding a new audience of casual gamers.  It will probably domminate the casual gaming market.
