Forums - Sony Discussion - My Take: Simultaneous Multiplat release of TOV could have sold less on PS3

First just want to clarify that by saying TOV could have sold less on PS3 on simultenous multiplatform release i mean to say that

current First Week number for TOV on PS3 (in my view are) >>>> in case of simultenous multiplatform release of TOV PS3 First week numbers

Reasons are:

1. PS3 was expensive back than, so no PS3 exclusive or multiplatform game did more than PS2 iteration so far (examples include, DMC4, SFIV, MGS4 n many more)

2. PS3 was fat back than.. (size does matter a lot in Japan)

3. in case of Simultaneous release of TOV some hype n sales could have gone to XB360. (back then PS3 was never marketed much... so it could have gotten lesser marketing)

4. Game was good n it was improved further for PS3.

So i believe that delayed release of these timed exclusive XB360 titles on PS3 are going to get much better sales than what they could have achieved by releasing them simultaneously.. especially considering the first two factors.

Thats why example of eternal sonata does not count in current situation.. If game is ported n given new content n better stability (bug free) its going to get good sales.

As we have only one game example, therefore this is just my take n sort of prediction.

ROFL!!!!

How do you explain RE 5 and other multiplats released on the same day in Japan? As all of them sold more on PS3 when it was higher in price and had the "fat" model?

Of course it will be better first week, there are more ps3 owners now. That's like saying they should have waited until PS3 was $199, the first week would have been more as well.

In the end, the total sale would probably be a little less on PS3 (compared to PS3 numbers if they were released together), and a little more on X360 (again, compared to X360 numbers if they were released together), because some of the people that wanted the game brought it on X360 already last year.

I m not comparing it with XBOX360 numbers.

i m saying

That is the lowered price n slimmer model are going to give these games more chance to sell... Earlier PS3 base was small so only diehard fans had PS3 n were buying game with lower price n smaller model more ppl r going to have PS3 n more games are going to sell even if they r year old port..

Dude, MGS4 sold more than MGS3

PS3 slim is helping TOV sales.

Ye I do see that happening. Slim and pricecut really helped things out. Although it would have still sold more on the PS3 than 360

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Just as a comparison.  The first Tales on the PS2 was also the highest selling.

I think the fact it was a timed exclusive is the bigger factor here. With Sony wanting extra content over a direct port it gave them the advantage.
