Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendomination at an end?

First time I saw this topic, and I'm late to the party. Really the actual original topic was resolved within page 1. However, to give my analysis/summary of the situation:

A system with no price drop, new bundles, and massive software droughts has outsold both competitors worldwide. One competitor has had massive price drops (20% drop in the first year) that are causing the company untold losses. Another company has already released the biggest game on it's system it will EVER have, and has had a price drop itself. Meanwhile, the first company, which is selling best still, hasn't delivered a single one of it's 3 main system sellers (SMG, SSBB, MK Wii) and is still yet to receive a single pricedrop in any territory.

Sorry, but why are people worried about the Wii's future again?

i agree, wee need to view this (SMG, SSBB, MK Wii) sales and xmas to view the things more clear, but for now the three consoles are right in sales, wee need one year or two to see important numbers, now is too soon.

Situation of Wii is obviously still very good but this system isn't sold out because of name any more. It needs games. I don't think Mario Galaxy will solve all problems. Brawl is delayed. It definitely won't help. PS3 struggled with lack of solid game library for 9 months. Now the drought is over. Price is much lower. Sale goes up. All people who think Nintendo wins holidays by wide margin will be disappointed. It will be close run because all players have solid offer. New PS3 sku in Japan will sell extra 30k-50k because of colour alone. In States $399 will attract many users. Hmm... yes, something is over. Domination? yeah, I guess so.

If you don't think Mario Galaxy will solve the Wii's problems, how do you expect unknown and untested new IPs like Uncharted and Haze to solve the PS3's problems?  I would be willing to bet that no single game in the PS3's life ever sells as much as Mario Galaxy does on the Wii.  I'm not sure what you are calling the end of the PS3 drought, but if the PS3 drought is over, the Wii drought is more than solved.

I don't think it will last but the Wii will go down slowly but surely, the only reason its so popular is because its so cheap (money wise).

Then why does it sell at 350+ on Ebay and Amazon? And for $600+ with online bundles?

Yeah, I'm trying to get myself an US WII via Ebay, but without any extra games the thing is selling over 350USD, excluding shipping! Its unbelievable, while the Best Buy price tag is at 249,99USD, oh but then again.... sold out :=/. I think the US is the only continent which is suffering from the-WII-wanted-badly-dilemma. You're better off buying a WII from Japan, where the price has "dropped". I don't think the US will see a drop in Nintendo domination any time soon though I do think its somewhat dying in Japan, mainly because of the WII and Mario Galaxy is the only game which might safe it. Oh and WII Fit of course. I've got a nasty feeling Zack & Wiki will bomb in Japan.

Nope. Wii has a real problem with quality software. Mario Galaxy will sell a lot but it's only one game. PS3 keeps steady stream of solid games since August. I don't expect new games to solve a PS3's problem because there is no problem at all. Before end of the year PS3 will have planty very interesting games appealing to broad audiency. N64 and GC have few heavy hitters too but it isn't enough. No sport games, shooters, racers - key genres outside Japan etc. Nintendo should be extremely happy with GTAIV delay.

I think is way to early to say that the nintendomination is over.... they didn't do anything for like so long and still are on top

What are PS3's big guns this Christmas? Nintendo has Galaxy in America and Wii Fit in Japan, and to a lesser extent Mario & Sonic, which should sell a lot due to the Sonic vs. Mario factor alone. 2 price cuts is nice, but what games are coming out in November and December that should fuel people's Christmas lusts for the PS3?

I'm leaving the 360 out of this, 'cuz they pulled out their big guns a little early (Halo 3), but it should sell kinda well to new 360 buyers this Christmas.

The Wii is a sort of cheap Gadget.
Nothing more, nothing less.
It is why people where buying it.

The PS3 is a gadget too but it is really more expensive than the Wii.

People were buying the Wii because of the hype behind the console and the low price. There were also the Nintendo fans that were the only fan to have access to their console (when Xbox360/PS3 were still too expensive).

The boss from Famitsu stated recently than 67% of Wii owners dont play the Wii anymore. It fits with the fact that a large part of the Wii owners are casual gamers that dont invest a lot in game and that are occasionaly interested in 1-2 party game like Wii Sport and Nintendo fan that simply dont have enought "hardcore games" to play.

If Nintendo focus on more mature games (metroid prime) and if third party decide to make more mature game too (why dont release multiplateform game on the Xbox360/Wii/PS3 like) then the Wii will definitively take the lead with a line-up that will cover EVERY TYPE OF GAME and please to all gamers.

I bet if You take the 50 most anticipated game coming in the next 12 months :
3 PS3 games
3 Xbox360
3 PC games
22 multiplateform games PS3/Xbox360/PC
9 Wii games

==> 25 games for the PS3/Xbox360 vs 9 Wii games

Wii need these multiplateform games too !
Assassin Creed/GTAIV/SC4 (the real one)/RE5 (the real one)/CoD4 etc ...
