Forums - Sales Discussion - When will DS lose its momentum?!

Their are to possinbilities, either Sony is going to admit defeat in this round and give PSP just the support to be viable or they will do the right thing and give it a rejuvination at the end of this summer. If they decide to just let the PSP ride it out and not due much more with it, I see the DS selling very good untill about early 2009. However if Sony comes out at E3 with a support in the PSP the DS may see a little biot of a slide. If Sony Brings the PSP spoke of shortly ago with 8GB flash memory, trimmer design, and a lower price point around 179.99 US for the new PSP it will see very good august 07 through jan 08. That redisgn along with great software support from Sony would be enougf to gain back a few sales on the DS. Software wise they need to start doing games over PSN for only PSP, they need to allow devs to tie in PSN with PSPtitles and give people more PORTABLE games hints psP. If Sony does what they are capable of doing with the PSP, DS will slow down. DS will still win this round regardless.

the psp has no chance. by the time sony gets all the peripherals ready for multimedia some apple product would have overwhelmed the market. the DS--my wife and i have 1 each. by now brain age is the only game that i play on it... and i won't care for any other games, not even animal crossing or nintendogs or, when spore comes out. i hope nintendo or some 3rd party comes out with more educational "games", coz that's all i care about on the DS. i imagine for many DS buyers that's the same case. like in japan, you have like "kanji training", "learning english" titles. maybe they can make "learning spanish" or like "SAT training" in the US. even though i'm not in college anymore i'd still try out "SAT training"... i mean, it's almost a perfect fit, i find it surprising nobody's doing it yet. think MGS can help PSP close the gap on DS? dream on. a friend of mine patented an idea he had for classroom learning on the DS. he'll be writing some software soon, hopefully he'll have enough eventually to secure some funding to hire a couple of programmers. the possibilities are endless. the DS is only gonna start selling more, not less.

the Wii is an epidemic.

But the PS3 is dead so it doesn't matter :) (and it was a joke, don't ban me or start a flame war please)

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

I've long thought Nintendo should release a Spanish Trainer for NA too... I'm curious to see what happens when they release Brain Age 2 in the West... The Brain Age 1 sales in NA and Europe have slowly climbed to the point where now they're downright fabulous... And Brain Age 2, with a lot more content, a more notable launch, etc., could outperform #1 just like it has in Japan... And I can't get over how many 5-million+ selling games DS is creating... Already: Nintendogs NSMB Brain Training Animal Crossing Mario Kart By the end of this year: PKMN Diamond PKMN Pearl Brain Training 2 Plus strong possibilities in: SM64:DS Dragon Quest 9 PKMN 4th generation game #3

So, perhaps a year mabey 7-9 months from now, we should start to see lower DS sales. This raises the question....will Nintendo still support GBA with software, and everything else or is it going to give the portable game industry over to Sony alltogether?
lol, that's so funny, but for real the DS is dying I mean look at last month in America's Top 50 DS: 12 games Top 3 Ranks: Number 4, 5, and 12 PSP:3 games Top 3 Ranks: Number 27, 35, 41 And to make it worse look at last week in Japan's Top 50 DS:36 games Top 3 Ranks: Number 1, 2, 5 (Wii had number 4) PSP: 1 game Top Rank: 3 So the DS is dying very good point dallas!!

TheSource said: DFC thinks DS can beat PS2 in worldwide sales (ie around 120 million). For that to happen, look at like this: Worldwide end of year LTD: 2007 - 56 million?? 2008 - 75 million 2009 - 90 million 2010 - 102 million 2011 - 112 million 2012 - 120 million
Well, considering PS2 is still selling around 300k a month in the US and elsewhere, I just don't see it. DS is 3 years old this spring right? I say life cycle is 3 more years maybe 4 they get to 2011. Technically it should be easier for DS to accomplish this since it is cheaper at this point in its life cycle than the PS2 was, handhelds have always sold extremely well (at least nintendos anyway).

As far as total worldwide sales I'm pretty sure the DS will sell better than any next gen console. Don't expect much momentum lost until Nintendo's next handheld comes out, and even then the DS will continue to sell well like the GBA did after the DS came out. I don't see any less than 80 million sold when all is said and done, and as high as 120 million is not impossible, though that high end would probably assume Nintendo wouldn't get their next handheld out until 2011 or later. My guess is probably DS 2 will come out 2009 or 2010.

The DS is a gimmick, it'll die off in a couple of months. ;>

IF software quality had anything to do here ,it would already lost momentum some months ago .Lunar Kinghts apart ,nearly anything remarkable (and a lot of crap ) is being released for the machine .In Japan it has had Prof Layton and a SUper Nes remake .Still it sells superbly .
