This is confirmed?

If so it is really stupid for Sony to make this exclusive. The routinely put their movie franchises on other consoles and MJ has way too much of a mass market appeal to force it on the PS3.

Seriously will limit its potential.

Should nintendo make mario-games multiplatform too? Keeping them exclusive limit their potential!

You're completely missing my point and obviously didn't read the rest of my posts.

Its not about making a SingStar game for other companies. i.e. similar to Mario.

Its about taking a movie/music IP that Sony owns and not using it in a way that maximizes the company's (aka Sony) profits from that IP. MJ is not a gaming IP, he's an music IP and similar to Sony's Movie IPs they should lease it out and make far more from royalties accross all platforms.

Now, if their long-term goal is to make money from SingStar first, then allow others, i.e. rockband, GH, etc, make their own games months later, then that would be a good way to do it as well.

I don't see any difference. Nintendo could make more money by royalties if they allowed other companies use mario in their games.

ok...

Sony is not just a games company. They own tons of rights to Music and Movies as well. They routinely lease the rights to these IPs to 3rd party companies to make video games accross all platforms, Spiderman anyone?

They could make them exclusive to Playstation but they don't becuase it makes more fiscal sense to lease the IP. However, with MJ, another non-gaming IP, they have decided to force that Music IP to be playstation only.

It has NOTHING to do with game IPs like Halo, Mario, SingStar, etc.

In Nintendo's case all they have is games, thus they must focus on their hardware/software. Kinda like Apple. But, in Sony's case they have a lot of other divisions and those divisions don't necessarily have to only support each other. Which is why I don't think I have ever seen a Sony Music/Movie IP being locked down like this before. It just doesn't make sense for Sony as a whole.

Judging from the responses on this thread, you should reconsider who is being stupid.

Actually, I have also had supporters, and your side of the argument has simply been regurgitating the same theme, ignoring the actual difference in the IPs. Music/Movies != Games.

Yes, I see a silent majority of supporters for you.  Please note, this is a discussion of a Michael Jackson Singstar game.  Singstar is an exclusive Sony IP.  You have made the enormous leap to conclude that Sony music has given an exclusive license to the Michael Jackson library to Singstar.  I must have missed that piece of information somewhere.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Superchunk, this game is on the PS3. Get over it. Would it have made more fiscal sense to lend the music out to everyone? Yeah. But obviously Sony has a game here that's advantageous to them, and they'd like to draw new audiences to the PS3. Sure, they could make more profit, but so could other companies. Microsoft could make more money by putting Lips on the PS3, but they don't.

Sure, it might not make much fiscal sense to you, but it's clear to the rest of us. Stop whining all over the thread, and never call anyone else "retarted." It's the definition of irony.

That's my point. I believe I said it in a few posts already, but again, all we have so far is Singstar, obviously a PS3 exclusive. Thus I have to presume Sony Music has only allowed a SingStar game thus far. If that later proves to be false, then I take back my rant agianst Sony's management.

My point from the beginning has always been that if Sony as a company decided to make a MJ music game exclusive to PS3, then they are being very shortsighted on the mass appeal of their Musc IP.

Guess only time will tell.

Actually, my first questions was if this game was even confirmed anywhere, as it didn't make sense to limit the sales of an MJ game to one console. MJ is just too big of a Music IP. Then all I heard was "lol its Singstar blah blah".

My bad on the retarded comment. I didn't mean it as You are retarded, but more like you're acting retarded.

I am only thinking from a purely fiscal point of view for an IP that obviously isn't exclusive by nature, i.e. not a Mario/LBP type of game. I can't believe all of you are so stuck on that fact that you can't discuss the possibility of it making much more financial sense to take this Music IP like all of their other Movies/Music and allow it to be accross all platforms. Yet, I'm the one being spanked.

Ah well. Guess no room for discussion here. :/

^We should also note that nothing has been officially announced. This thread is based upon a Singstar MJ listing in the VGChartz game database.

Very true.

Any MJ game will be on PS3 only, Sony owns all of his songs (shared with the jackson family). Also Smooth Criminal was released for Rockband but exclusive to PSN only, which also proves my point again. (if it is not exclusive to PSN please tell me I am only 90% sure).

Nope, look back at your own post. Sounded like you were calling them retarded to me.

Yes, it would make more fiscal sense to put it across all the different platforms. But how many first party IPs do that? That's what you fail to grasp. No, it's not a game like Mario or LittleBigPlanet, but it's owned by Sony. What would happen if the game does much better on the Wii and/or 360, and it moves more systems for Nintendo and Microsoft? Seems like a stupid move for Sony then. Sony lends out most of their movie videogame IPs (e.g. Spiderman) to other developers (Treyarch, for example), so those companies are perfectly allowed to make the game multiplatform. Singstar has always been made by a Sony exclusive developer, and one who was never worked on Nintendo and Microsoft systems.
