Forums - Nintendo Discussion - A prediction involving Wii Zapper

Agree. the nes zapper was only used for duck hunt and hogan's alley. At least in my home.

I honestly don't think it looks too great either, much worse than many of the fan-made versions on the net, but I'll wait until I try it before I say more.

Mmmm, Duck Hunt...good times even I couldn't shoot that dog.

Expect the Zapper to be used for a few games at launch and used as "secondary control schemes" in other games (if they do use it).

Peripherals never, ever sold well. It's a vicious cycle. People won't buy the peripheral if games don't support it. And developers won't support it unless there are people who use it.

On the plus side, the zapper is nothing more than a hunk of plastic. Developers could simply assume 2-handed game controls that don't use the accelerometers much. So a gamer could hold them in two hands normally, or put it in the Zapper mold for more comfort. It would be considered a perk in that case.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

I think ill like link's crossbow traiiing better than TP... I don't really like advnutre games :P
tho I loved majoras mask/ocarina, and kinda sorta like TP...

control scheme;
fire is the trigger obviously...aim with the IR pointer
move with the control stick
sidestep by pressing c and using the control stick (jumping/ducking could be done in the same way)
secondary fire, or reload could be the z-button or one of the face buttons (secondary fire button on the face would be a switch though....so you press it then press the trigger.....unless maybe using a rocket launcher, which are often activated by a button anyway)
change weapon up/down with 1/2 buttons (or could use one of them to enter a menu then point to a weapon like with twilight princess)

there is still the plus/minus button...possibly one of the other face buttons and the d-pad left.....so maybe issuing commands in those war games you all like would be the d-pad, + could go to some game pause menu or something and - could do somehting else.

that's covered everything i can think of and i haven't even inluded motion controls. (could be used for commands, therefore freeing up the d-pad)

Oh, i have just realised what the zapper is missing.....if only Nintendo could have added an extendable (and lockable) stock to that bit under the nunchuck....that would rock.

Nice post. I'd like to add to it.

Reload - make upward motion of the zapper
Switch weapons - make left or right motion with zapper

How many buttons do you need to play games? Is it really hard to take your hand off the gun to press other buttons?

I think it's kind of stupid to say that the zapper limits the game play and use of buttons.

First of all, no buttons are actually hidden behind any plastic. Look at the possible use of the buttons, shall we?

Motion sensing - First of all I want to point out that the IR and motion sense is not the same thing. Why would you not be able to use the motion sensing with the zapper?

A-button, D-pad, +, -, 1 and two - Well, let's say you switch weapon, reload, heal, etc. YEAH!

C and Z - Hm, heard of secondary shells, zoom, granades?

Bah

The problem is that it's extremely awkward to press any of the Wiimote face buttons with the Zapper.

 It'd be much easier to just use the Wiimote & Nunchuk.

The Zapper doesn't do anything that the Wiimote & Nunchuk don't.

 That's pretty much the only reason anyone used it. The biggest reason it was sucessful was because well, 1. it was packaged 2. it allowed motion sensing! (kinda)

The Wiimote alone is good enough as it is for a Duck Hunt like game.

BTW, the games that used the Zapper:

 Has anyone ever heard of the other games besides Hogan's Alley and Duck Hunt?

Are people that lazy that they can't move their hands more than 5 inches from its original position and then back to the original position?

Soldiers don't walk around with a death grip on their guns in real life. What do you have to do to throw a grenage in real life? Let me tell you how it's not done.... you don't press a button on a game pad.

Zapper = more money.

I've heard of Bayou Billy, and I've got Operation Wolf on my PC, but that's about it. Some pretty obscure titles on that list.
