There are no magical eBay trolls who buy up any item that is posted ... Hypothetically speaking, if 3/4 of people who bought your system on launch day are scalpers and your system doesn't sell out what is going to happen to the systems posted on eBay?

What's odd to me is that Sony's able to build a million+ systems for a single month, yet Nintendo is hardly building many more systems than that per month. You would think the Wii would be significantly easier to produce in larger quantities.
1st) Sony is a bigger company 2nd) They've delayed the EU launch 5 months... doesn't this tell you something? 3rd) Nintendo is also busy manufacturing DS's, Sony isn't THAT busy with the PSP's cause they're never sold out.

uh...the price goes down but they get sold. I sold one on ebay for hundreds more than $600 (would have been more if I had more feedback and could sell it sooner, ie launch day), but as the demand was less the price dropped. They still sold, though. I know some people kept them (I kept one) or returned them, but not a high percentage of ebay sellers returned them.

Gamingdevil: Nintendo and Sony have shipped 6m units till 31march 2007. The big question is how Sony can produce that much? Saying that psp is not selling is a bad excuse, Sony produce other electronics not just "playstation". So I agree with your first argument that Sony is bigger. But i think it still wierd because that PS3 is harder to produce and Sony was 1 million consoles behind shipped in december.

As a guestimate, both companies have (possibly dramatically) increased production since November but the lower sales for the PS3 in Japan and North America have given Sony a good opportunity to build up a decent supply. Consider that on average the Wii has outsold the PS3 by 200,000 units per month in North America and 40,000 per week in Japan (with at least an additional 200,000 per month being sold in Europe) so if they were both creating the exact same number of units it would only take 2 months for Sony to have a Million units sitting in a warehouse.

This launch can go in any way, Sony must be pushing like hell here in europe, because suddently the price isn't 6500 SEK in sweden fo the consol alone. Now you get a BR movie, and a game for 5999 SEK in some stores. Either Sony is overshipping or the want to creat fortress sony in europe. Becuase al advertisment so far is about "cheap" bundles.

I think this is a problem of POV. A system must be sold out to make success? I think that is what people are used to because normally there is not enough consoles to meet initial demand. But if there is, it just seems unusual but that does not mean it isn't doing good.

I think that people like me sees EU as PS3 as their "last" chance. Anything that indicates that Sony isn't selling like hell will generate bad press. Sony really need some good press now, but as I posted before sony is pushing ps3 hard in EU so a good start should be possible. The major problem is that they launch in mars, not a big holiday season in EU.

Why do people care about negative or positive press? Because it validates their purchase. I like to hear about news and features about all of the consoles but some sort of spin has to be thrown in... by someone.... it is sad. I want the black 360 because of HDMI and the 120 gig....... and just because the black will match my home setup. And Hdmi displays fully on my screen while I have some issues with component and VGA. But comparisons had to be brought up with this news. If someones statement has to be altered or shortened or whomever is repeating the statement has to throw in their own opinion it just goes to show that spin is hardly going to be avoided this generation.

This must be specific for sweden. here in switzerland, i haven't seen bundles as far as i remember, and the price is 899 CHF everywhere.
