It depends whether or not you consider the January 3 numbers as part of 2008 or 2009.  I asked about this in another thread.  I take it consensus among the tracking publications is that the week of Dec 28 to Jan 3 is considered to be the last week of 2008.

It's 4 days of 2009 vs 3 days of 2008, why would I say they are 2008 numbers?

Now that I've actually looked at the link, I see that VGC is treating the week as part of 2009 and making it a 53-week year.

What someone else noted was that famitsu and MC each had PS3 trailing Wii by 10k to 15k a couple weeks ago (I haven't checked) indicating that they are not including the week in question as part of 2009.

I expect the ps3 to keep beating the wii by small amounts until NSMBW comes out. Then wii will pull ahead by a lot at first then decrease until FFXIII comes out. Then ps3 will kill the wii. Overall, because of ffxiii ps3 will win, but not by a lot.

Came here to say what MM said, but really great thread. I've never expected it to be so close in Japan for the Wii vs PS3 I guess Nintendo has some work to do.

Updated the OP with many "Cheaper Edition" games and a couple other minor releases. This will probably be the last update concerning the release schedule.

Despite PS3 beating the Wii this week by 17k units, the gap increased in favour of the Wii, meaning PS3 has been adjusted down in Japan.

I don't think PS3 has been adjusted down.  As of the time of this posting, the last two weeks of Japanese PS3 sales are missing for Japan so I think that is being reflected in the total (i.e. the weeks ending Nov 1 and Nov 8 have zero sales).

CORRECTION: Having now looked closely at the numbers, VGC's Japan total of 1,120,261 for PS3 includes the Nov 8 sales of 42,420 but has sales of zero for the week ending Nov 1.  That figure used to be 34,126 but I suspect that the reason it shows 0 now is that it might be in the process of being revised.  (Or maybe it was just deleted by an errant keystroke).  If it is an adjustment in progress, for what it's worth Famitsu had 37k that week and MC a little over 36k.
