Police: Teen's attack by 2 students involves race

Associated Press - September 15, 2009 10:04 AM ET

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Police in the southwestern Illinois city of Belleville say the videotaped attack of a 17-year-old student by two other riders on a school bus appears to be racially motivated.

Authorities took into custody the two black Belleville West High School students they believe pummeled and choked the white victim Monday as others on the bus cheered them on.

All of its was recorded by a video camera mounted inside the bus.

There's no immediate word on charges against the two suspects, ages 15 and 14.

Police say one suspect refused to let the victim sit next to him, then began punching and choking the teen. Moments later, the other suspect taunted the victim, then punched him.

 

 

two things...I hate the title...and teh reason why is that there was more than one white kid on that bus.... they were picking on him.

 

Btw, read teh comments...racism seems to bleed hard in this country still...

It's a terrible thing, but this isn't that rare in a lot of schools throughout the country.

man the law is so fucked up. If a gay guy gets beat up its a hate crime. If a black guy gets beat up by a white guy its a hate crime. This is the first time I've actually heard of it being racially motivated when it was a white guy getting beat up and I think it's just as stupid now as it was when heard about the other "hate crimes" involving people of other races. Even if the one commiting the crime isn't racist or homophobic they can still get charged with a hate crime... it's stupid.

I don't believe there should be such a law as "hate crimes". It makes no sense. giving someone special treatment because of the color of there skin or sexual orientation. Everybody should be treated as equal. If you beat someone up, you should get charged with assault no matter what color skin they have. But some people will always fall back on "he hit me cause i am a homosexual" "he hit me cause i am black", just so they can make the punishment more.  Its not right.

This is how I feel,changing punishments depending on race just expands the boundaries between minorities.

It's not giving people special treatment because of the color of their skin or anything like that.

It's legislating thought.  Which is actually much worse.

"You did this... because you thought this... so it's worse."
