Wii is better for family fun.

Nonsense.

The Wii is an alternative route towards family fun, not a 'better' route. I have both a PS3 and a Wii, and the PS3 gets far more love from the whole family than the Wii does. Each to their own, as they say. Your blanket statement is objectively wrong, as it is a subjective opinion touted as an objective fact, which simply doesn't work.

You'd've been better saying: 'I think the Wii is better for family fun.' That would have been correct.

Your family can go suck it(but they don't have to if you find it too offensive). They're obviously not the average family.

The average fucktard family will have more fun waggling the wiimote than they will with a PS3.

I'm talking little kids and grandmas.

My statement is still correct... Wii has sold more, thus has more potential for more families having fun. It's therefore better for family fun because a larger number of families can be entertained at the same time. Can you deny that?

The only reason the wii has sold more than the ps3 has been the price point of the ps3. And the fact that it managed to snap up some none gamers.

Wii is not better family fun than a ps3... Objectively. Perhaps in your subjective mind but objectively it is not. You can't make a statement like that because it'll be your opinion that you state. You can't say the average person who learns to use the wii will have more fun with it than one that learns to use the ps3. It doesn't go like that man.

Better does not equal more. Hence your last remark is unrelated. It's sold more, so more are capable of playing at the same time sure, if it didn't have such poor online that might be relevent in some unknown way ? but it does, and it's not.

Wii is better for family fun because when the family visits, they won't want to play your PS3 or 360, it's just some geeky gaming console.

They will want to play your Wii. Personal experience, Wii is better for family fun.

Personal experience. Mine is reversed. When my family comes over we play the playstation 3 and not the wii. I have both and the wii is barely ever used.

Does that mean the ps3 is better family fun ?

No. It just means that it is for my family, like the wii is for yours. Like i said you can't objectively say either is better for family fun.

The ps3 isn't seen as a geeky console either, it's the hot thing to have around here.

Btw if you're gonna repeat yourself don't bother because i'm right and a discussion is a waste of both of our time :P

Can't really say if this ad is good or bad. It seems to be aimed at the same hardcore audience the PS3 already has, but adding the value of family play. It's not going to be enough if they want to sell it to the Wii audience, but it's a step in the right direction. The question is if the step is big enough. Can this really change the perception of nongamers? Will this make it interesting for anyone outside the regular demographic?

How's it aimed at a "hardcore" audience..?

It's obvious that it's not the wife they are talking to. Nor is it the children. No, it's the man. The man that has problems finding an acceptable form of spending time with his family doing something that fits his interests. Thus, the target demographic of this commercial is not very far from the current demographic of the PS3. It only really adds the value of spending time with your family to the deal. This might be able to capture the lapsed 'hardcore' gamer, but I doubt anyone beyond this group will respond well to the Playstation being held up as a better way to spend time with your family than what they are currently doing.

But with the rebranding in progress, I think it's only a matter of time before we see ads that are aimed at people outside the male 15-35 group.

Hardcore is a bad word by the way. I apologize for taking it in my mouth.

If they want to sell to non gamers, they better make it known that it's a multi-media movie device, and bring over that DVR ad-on that theyhave in europe, and say it contributes to curing caner.

They don't even need to mention it's a gaming device.  Everyone that's been waiting to switch to blu-ray for under 350 bucks will buy it.  Someone needs to replace their audio reciever?  They might replace it with a PS3, all you have to do is connect it to your speakers.  Want to contribute to cancer research?  You can do that too.

Wii got casual gamers.. PS3 can reach out to people who aren't gamers at all.  There's always another route.

But...can it do everything?

It can do everything, even play Mario. The PS3 doesn't play Mario.
