Even if you take away Wii Sports, the Wii is doing pretty well being that it hasn't had the quantity of major releases this year that the competition has had. On top of that, one has to wonder how much of an impact the virtual console has on game sales because I'm far more likely to buy a good VC game that a crappy Wii game.

Well to each his own i guess. Not that the author has any proof to back up his theory or anything, but taking jabs at any console is fun nowadays i suppose. About those graphics, didn't someone write not so long ago that SMG looks so amazing that even some of those PS3/xbox360 titles don't impress? If it were about them polygons, consoles would have been long gone with the pc being the dominant gaming station.

I am not sure, but I think you should add 7.5 million VC games sold to that. Although they are not normal software, the 3rd parties still receive money for every game bought there.

^Great stat, but WiiSports should be included in this kind of debate, because it's a game people play and therefore, of course, will prevent some people from buying other games. Same with WiiPlay and VC games.
Especially more casual gamers will be satisfied with 1 or 2 games a year. The stated post makes some sense in that.
But it is obvious that Wii sells a lot of games, and holiday should be big.

As for the graphics: Yeah they do matter, but only relative. RE4 still looks great and SMG promises great graphix. Stuff like Cruis'n looks awful. Wii is capable of graphix that are good enough to compete. Developers that deliver sh*tty graphics for Wii didn't put effort in the making, and therefore probably deliverd a bad game.
SMG, Brawl and Metroid3 have graphix that are better than original Xbox, which is good enough for me, but some developers just screw the graphix up.

"Listen, we all know the Wii is selling well, but that doesn't mean people are actually playing the console," he writes.

"Sorry to say, graphics still matter, and because it is lacking, some walk into a room, play with it for an hour, tell everyone how fun it is, and go back to their PS3 to marvel at the look of a game," Reisinger theorizes.

But "if people decide to buy it because it looks nice at a friend's house and proceed to play it until they get bored with it, where are the opportunities for third-party developers to make money?"

This writer is gonna have a heart attack once Wii proves graphics DON'T matter. The graphics were fine last generation. Get to the gameplay, suckas.

Nobody's having PS3 parties with ma and grandma.

Opportunities for 3rd parties? The vast vast VAST marketshare Nintendo has and will have. Where there's money to be made the opportunity will be taken.

John Lucas

The graphics were fine last generation if you owned a standard tv. Sorry, but on my HD TV I enjoy HD graphics. I personally plan on purchasing a wii but not for the games honestly. I'm really interested in Wii Fit and the party games to play with friends. Will I purchase super mario galaxy and other AAA titles? Possibly but to me when I do purchase a wii it will be more for the perks. In a sense the guy who you declare is just wrong "gonna have a heart attack" is describing the reason I would purchase a wii.

^ Wrong. WiiSports is a cost to move systems. Its called a bundle. In this debate the charts are about how well software is *Selling* on the wii.

If you take away Wii Sports (and I wont even mention Wii Play that should be taken away as well as nobody would be buying that if it wastn bundled with a wiimote ) then you can clearly see the Wii ratio is the worst of the 3 new machines .5 million machines buying 15 million games is 3 games for machine ,even less if you take away Wii Play .The 360 sees 7 million buying 50 million (around 7 games for console ) and PS3 has 2 millions buying nearly 9 million games so some 4.5 games for machine. The 360 ratio can be bigger because being one year more in the market (more opportunities for the players to buy more games ) but everything accounted the PS3 and 360 ratios are better than the Wii.

It's a bundle in Europe and in America. In Japan it's sold seperately. If you take out Wii sports, it's kind of like we should count out Motorstorm and Resistance from the PS3 bundles, as those games are also meant right now to move systems.

let's take away the whole ps3 then, nobody buys anything!

the sales numbers there speak volumes for the wii in my opinion, theres no arguing that the 360 has alot of great games and if anything software releases are at their absolute maximum yet the wii, before it reatures anywhere near the same maturity is pretty much hot on its heels. Once wii software steps in in pace (as its going to within a month) the situation will be very different.

In a way wii sports shouldnt be counted, but in a way it should, it has been pretty much the sole reason to own the machine for alot of people so buying the wii without that game would have been pretty pointless. At the same time, a pack in game made buying another title non-essential, so you could say they have cut their own throats in some sense.

It would have been interestin if they had launched the machine without a pack in game at say 5 - 10$ less and then offered consumers sports, play and a few other games for $10 each, i think that could have been an even better way to launch the machine, not that it needed to be improved.
