It might just get the tap...but with Halo Reach in reach (pardon the pun), it wouldn't have the crown for very long.

as great as a 2-3 million launch week is, why do you think it will sell so low? American pre-orders only will be between 2-3 million. So this + Japan + Europe + Americans without a pre-order won't so anything?


I simply don't belive it will sell more than Halo 3 and twice as much as Gears of War.

We can use Gow as example here:

Gow 1 sold 910k first week and 5,90M total so far

Gow 2 which enjoyed same kind of fame from succesfull part one as MW2 does sold 1,945M first week and 5,14M so far

Considering that MW1 had 1041k first week and 7,71M total sales i don't see MW2 selling more than 3M first week and my resonable prediction would be 2500k for first week.


you have got your point, but simply looking at the numbers... it is very hard to tell, but this will be one of the best things to look out for this year.

Could it be that VGC is way off with the pre-orders?

Nah I don't think it has a chance, honestly. Modern Warfare 1 was by far a better game than Halo 3, and I know Modern Warfare 2 will be, but it won't happen. At the very most, it might have the best opening week across ALL consoles, but you're DirtyP2002, so you don't care about anything but the 360=P

OT: I think it will come close to beating Halo 3's first week.

Hrm... Halo 3 is gonna be one tough cookie to take down, in fact... I really don't think any other game besides Halo 4 is gonna crack that top spot. Nonetheless, I expect great things from MW2, so that'll definitely be a fun week to watch.

Also, Wii Sports Resort initial week was clocked at 1,250,194. Just throwing that in there.

I know, but I did not count Wii Sports since it was bundled with every Wii from the very start. This was like the 1st week sales of the wii itself.

And yeah I know most of the games up there saw some kind of bundle too, but Wii Sports is just over the top.

Combined with the PS3 it will beat Halo 3 thats confirmed but with Xbox 360 only...
I'm not sure but its possible.

Yeah, I wouldn't count WS either, but WSR is its own monster.

I dont see it happening, it will be a strong first week and i could be wrong... but a large part of that is i just dont like the series, if i had not needed a serviceable WWII shooter i would not have picked up waw (what is up with all the wwII shooters being hobbled this gen) on the flip side im waiting for the next rainbow six style shooter, this holiday season has seen more games i want to play moved out of it then anything else ... very light on shooters
