For the 5000-series or the 5870 in particular? Maybe its a paper launch (or very limited release).  Rufly $300 for a 5870 rite?

I've seen both 'just 58xx' or 'entire series'. I imagine, based on past launches, the 5850 would be the first availible, then 5870, then the midrange and low-end, then finally the X2.

All in all I expect it to be a limited release launch with cards taking until early October to show up in quantity. But reviews, specs, prices etc. on the 23rd.

$400 for a 1GB 5870, actually. $300 for a 5850 with 3/4 of the performance of a 5870.

But I want it. Preferably a 5870 X2.

Would you actually benefit from it? If Crysis is playable and smooth on Very High/1920x1200 on a 5870...

No I wouldn't. Ill buy a 5870 then. When is coming out?

September 23 is the only estimate I've seen.

Apparently:

5870 2GB - $449

5870 1GB - $399

5850 1GB - $299

Bah, looks kind of similar in size to the Sapphire 4850x2 and I believe that this thing is one of the longest video cards currently out there.

Also in the first image of the new ATI card, what's that port on the left? I identify the HDMI and dual DVI's, but I'm not exactly sure what that last one is.

The port on the left is DisplayPort.

Yes. There will also be a version of the 5870 that runs SIX monitors using DisplayPort for a total max resolution of 7680x3200. And you can have four cards together, meaning 24-monitor configs are allowed. Oh, and seamless to the OS, so no bugs.

^ I can not see a display port on those 2 pics.

Meh. ATI cards always get too hot.

...a graph...

The last card on that list is enough to sway me away from ATI. I don't need to boil water with my GPU, thanks.

Do you even know what crossfire is? multiple cards. A single card is a lot cooler as you can see. And why do you care so much about heat? ATi cards work fine until 125 degrees, you'd have to try REAL hard to get such a temp.

I know what crossfire is Same thing as SLi.

I care about heat because when gaming, I don't want my bedroom to heat up to intolerable levels within an hour. My 8800GT maxes out at 80C and still makes my bedroom waaaay too hot. 125 degrees is insane, and with that amount of heat (if ever reached), other components would undoubtedly suffer.

You do realise that temperature != heat output? Its heat output that will heat your room, not just the temperature of the die. A die pumping out 200W can be quite cool if you throw a massive heatsink on it, and vice versa. Pretty much all the current nVidia cards except the latest 40nm ones require more power than their equivalent ATI counterpart. As for reliability due to temps, given the fiasco nVidia has had with failing cards, I'd rather have ATI's temps (as I do, HD4850 here) than nVidia unreliability.

Alright, so it seems to be official. Guess I have an alternative to a GTX260 3-way SLI.

A rocking card and series. I was looking to upgrade in the next 6th months or so, perhaps sooner rather than later.

Official roadmap has been posted. And official performance numbers too.

5870 is 50% faster than the GTX285 on average, and on par with the GTX295.

September - Cypress, 5850 and 5870, at $250 - $350

Q4 '09 - Hemlock (5870 X2) at $400-$500; Juniper (midrange, think 56xx) at $150 to $200

Q1 '10 - Redwood and Cedar, think 53xx or 54xx, sub-$100
