Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What will Nintendo do now?

Ok so the PS3 slim launched with a pricedrop and it was a splash. 360 also got a pricedrop and is getting good increases. Now Wii weekly sales are being closed at, and the holidays are not gonna be as dominnant for Nintendo as the past 2 yrs have been. Wii is doomed right?

I beg to differ. Hey i'm a bit worried too, and maybe they're taking too much time to respond, but isn't that just typical Nintendo, acting all cool like nothing happened, never panicking? So this is what i think, and what i'm guessing. Just like Sony kept its yearly predictions, Nintendo has done so too, despite decreasing annual sales, and by a huge margin also! Sony had the slim up its sleeve, and i bet you Nintendo has so too. It's just too naiive to think the games could be the saviour for Nintendo and actually make up ground from last year's holidays numbers! I just dont see it.

What do i think Nintendo have been doing then? I think they didn't panic instantly, looked at the competition, studied their moves and there effects, and monitored sony's slim launch very carefully. Now what? Now they move, i think by october we will see something big from Nintendo announced, a pricedrop to say the least. I think they've monitored enough and not being able to satisfy their predictions(and it ain't looking good now) will be a huge blow, they definitly are up to something, and unlike Sony they can keep their secrets more than them. So expect something big to be announced by october, thats my prediction.

Thoughts?

they should lower the price to 200$.

one strong week does not win the war!! A price drop close to Black Friday might be in the cards but I don't see why a knee-jerk-reaction needs to be taken just like Microsoft rushing to drop prices withing days.

yeah, probably

I regret making this my username, I made this name when I was 13 years old

Life could always get worse, you could be a mod for Neogaf

Nintendo is not going to let the competition's sales worry them. Their own decreasing sales are what will concern them. If they drop price, it will be to help them meet their predictions, not as a response to Sony or Microsoft.

Aside from the fact that yeah, sales are going to be huge this week for both Sony and MS, but we don't know at what level they are going to flatline (i.e., the long term boost)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

They also held back on NSMB release date, i think they wanted to know FF13's before to just release it at the right time. Will they do bundles? NSMB bundle would be huge too

iwata, back problems are okay.
i heard gates told him about "sleep of piles of money" do to the back.

so my take, is nothing, while they get huge profits they will continue 250$ price.

They wont do anything

I absolutely agree, they never get worried about competition. However i think they are starting to believe that if they dont move soon, competition will eat away its own sales. PS3 slim was a huge card for Sony, and i think Nintendo have been holding out for too long now, if they dont take action they'll probably wont regain the steam they had these past 2 years

The pricedrop would be good news to me as I'm planning to get an american Wii once the black color is introduced. But I don't think that is necessarily going to happen. Nintendo must have had their strategy ready a long time before it was known that both X360 and PS3 will get a pricecut, and long before the Slim was announced. They seem to be sticking to that strategy, so apparently they still believe it is going to work under the new conditions. It remains to be seen how they expect to increase the demand for their little console once again.
