Forums - Website Topics - Why do other sites look down the noses at VGChartz????

They don't like the idea that we don't try and say we have the exact numbers. We come out and give estimates, preliminaries, etc and always adjust when new data comes in.

VGC is simply trying to have the most accurate data possible and the quickest way possible. Some see that as bad because we use other numbers to improve our accuracy and thus assume that we have no idea what we are talking about. However if they would actually consistenly look at our numbers are right or close to what is perceived to be right the majority of the time and use outside numbers to only maintain that accuracy.

I think it's great that we do that while others use it as a complaint against us. But ignorance doesn't get them very far.

Doesn't even NDP adjust there numbers? Nobodies perfect I'm just glad were getting what we get for free

VG Chartz has an excellent community, top of the line Database, wonderful staff, and has weekly sales for a lot of consoles and thousands of games. Something not very many websites have, actually I think VG Chartz is the only one to my knowledge.

this are estimations-
they are good for a general idea.

but of course people will laugh at you uses them as facts!

I think what makes this site unique is the lifetime tacking. It is actually very hard to get lifetime estimates and this site is the only place that I can find this information easily. It may not be 100% but due to the fact I have no access to this information from any other source as easily makes it the clear winner in my book.

Winner of the 2010 VGC Holiday sales prediction thread with an Average 1.6% accuracy rating. I am indeed awesome.

Yes, when VGC launched, GAF and NPD spent about 6 months spreading whatever they could to smear VGC and hurt our reputation. A lot of it came from personal differences / jealousy (GAF) and business threat (NPD) and unfortunately a lot of it seemed to stick.

Luckily, a lot of that seems to have subsided these days and many can see VGC for what it is - a good, free source of reasonably accurate data - i.e good enough for 99% of people who want to know how well a game or piece of hardware is doing.

Sorry to hear that, ioi.

I love the community on VGC. Neogaf is just too large and anonymous for me.

And I think you do a great job at tracking!

Because the other sites are stupid. I see nothing wrong with preliminary data or estimates. They are usually very close to what the final number is anyways, since we've got some great predictors here. I'm reading that GT thread and wow, there are a lot of people that don't like VGC. Well, I don't see them doing what we are, so they should shut the fuck up.

EDIT: I just saw this post:

"Yeah VGChartz is very unreliable. One of their rules is that you are not allowed to question their numbers on the site. I know a guy that got banned there for posting the NPD sales numbers as a correction on one of their game sales pages."

??? That's never happened. Luckily some guy corrected him in the next post, but that's the type of shit that goes around about this place. Every page at least one person said something like, "VGChartz, nothing to see here."

Oh, and ioi: I just read what you said and it's definitely unjust hate. The prelims are usually very close to the final numbers, and on top of that everyone gets it a few days early. It's like people think we're off by a zillion every prediction and then correct data accordingly, when it's really only a few thousand. NPD, Media Create, and Famitsu aren't perfect either yet they are assumed to be.

Most of the people who hate VGC are the kind of people who think NPD numbers are 'official.'

There's only so much you can do to fight ignorance before you have to rely on an individual's own desire to be less ignorant. VGC is gaining more and more traction with journalists and developers themselves, so eventually the cries of "VGC, LOL!" will ring more and more hollow.

That would be me. I figured that he was so sadly misinformed that I'd actually log onto my GT account for the first time in 9 months and show him the error of his ways.

People on every site looks down their nose at people on every other site. It's internet rivalry. Don't for a second think that we don't do the same thing on this site.

VGChartz is awesome. Pure and simple. It does have some flaws however. Most of them are easilly explainable. Take adjustments, for example. There's no insight into when, how or why any number is adjusted. Meaning you can quote numbers now and they might be wrong in 10 minutes with no notice or warning whatsoever.

But how else could you run the site, really? You go by the best available information, and you update your numbers if you get additional, better information. If you have 1000 updates a week, you don't really want to advertise every single one of them. It's just not feasible.

Really, if you look at it from the wrong angle, VGChartz looks like a guessing factory with no integrety. Especially if you have an agenda, and VGChartz numbers don't agree with it.
