I was in a ranting mood when I wrote that post. I assume you are objecting to the Nintendo comment. Well, you don't get the feeling that some of Nintendo's games are created with the clear purpose of selling millions and raking in pots of money? And have you ever seen Nintendo do that before this gen?

This wasn't addressed to me specifically, but I'll take it anyway since I'm bored.

I do get what you're saying, but making money is (one of) the biggest reason(s) to get into the videogame business. If you intend to make video games for a living, you HAVE to care about the money at least to an extent - that's a fact. Especially now when a single big flop can put you and your company out of business - unless you somehow manage to find a patron or something to finance your projects, or are a small-time indy developer.

And I don't personally think that Nintendo has really sacrificed its "vision" for money at any point. Way I see it, Nintendos goal has always been to make games that as many people as possible can enjoy (and make a fortune out of them) - not solely children, adults, hardcore gamers, softcore gamers, other gamers, non-gamers - but all of them, and it's damn good at what it does.

Nintendo may not be catering to you spesifically, but that doesn't mean they're completely ignoring you.

OT: Oh yeah, and people enjoy different things about videogames. Just because you don't like thing A, doesn't mean nobody else likes it either.

Certainly, the developers want to make money, but it shouldn't be the highest priority. The highest priority should be to make a quality game. Of course, not all developers/publishers believe in that (cough Activision cough). Nintendo were excellent in this regard. Never did they make a shitty game because they thought it would sell. Their games sold because of quality, and because the quality of the franchises had given them many fans over the years. Now, I'll probably be flamed for saying this, and to clarify, I am not being sarcastic.

Wii Fit. Was that made with anything other than sales in mind? However, that did turn out quite well. But then...

Wii Music.

I am not saying that Nintendo are bad developers, or that they don't care about the quality of their games. They are some of the best developers in the industry, and always have been. But success is beginning to make them greedy.

I don't think that you are the right person to judge Nintendo, because I doubt that you have played most of their games in the past decades. You don't know enough about the subject to participate in a serious discussion. Not enough about their history, not enough about their games. Keep that in mind when you want to continue the argument. *EDIT: That was probably too condesceding, so ignore it.*

An early example of a crappy Nintendo game made for the sake of money would be Donkey Kong 3. It had the popular name, but wasn't anything like the previous two titles. The game was so poor that it's hard to argue that it was more than a cash in. The original Super Mario Bros. 2 (Lost Levels in the Western World) is another example of a lazy effort with the goal to make money off of the popularity of a previous game.

How should Nintendo have known how well Wii Fit would sell? There wasn't a real precedent for that kind of game and the few fitness games that were made before by other companies were largely ignored. So how do you make a cash in on something that doesn't have a proven market yet? Remember, most people thought Nintendo was crazy for making Wii Fit.

Wii Music wasn't purposefully lacking, it's just that Nintendo went with a concept that later on proved to be the wrong approach on music games. You could definitely argue that Nintendo relied too much on the Wii brand name to sell this, but as I have pointed out above, they have been guilty of this before.

Are they beginning to get greedy though? With games like Sin & Punishment 2, Other M and many titles on a small scale still in the works, i.e. games that won't sell millions upon millions, it doesn't look like Nintendo is more and more looking for ways to milk consumers as much as they can.

I hate it when I say controversial things and then defend them despite agreeing with them less and less.

Anyway, I suppose my memory of Nintendo would be selective. I've only ever played the good Nintendo games. But yeah, I now agree that Nintendo have always been greedy bastards just kidding.

I suppose you're right about Wii Fit, but I stand by Wii Music being a blatant milking of the Wii franchise.

Having said that, I concede defeat. Damn you RolStoppable!
