I don't get how they could know how many the consumers have purchased.

Well I do know one method of doing that, but I don't think walmart (this company will not show inventory levels to anyone, and I mean anyone) would swing with it, so I'm just going to go on with my business.

Carl... this is spin by Mikeb to stir things up....

This has nothing to do with the numbers reported by Sony as shipped or MS as shipped v VGChartz. But Mikeb is trying to light a fire and cause a row again. It is tedious and quite frankly pathetic.

Seeing that he obviously likes to talk about sales, and the news is dated from today... he has a right to post it.

He hasn't mentioned anything about Sony's shipped numbers, or MS' shipped numbers, or even VGChartz numbers.

If anybody is trying to start a row it is you with your first post... which was quite frankly pathetic and didn't bring anything good to the topic. There is nothing to "deal" with, you are trying to make it something to "deal" with.

I took it to mean that when Sony reports their numbers, they are reporting sold to end-users, just like Microsoft claims, as apparently Microsoft said Sony doesn't do this.

Sony should be able to be more accurate than anyone else. Of course they can determine how many units retailers have bought and at what rate they are ordering new units. Likely they also work with GfK data (which according to them excludes some sales for Australia for example, due to units being given away with HDTVs).

@kowenicki

Look i respect you and all, but-

i know how you feel about MikeB , which you have made known quite alot on the forum's, but i do see what you did as trying to make an "ant hill out of a mole hill" its just not very productive. what MikeB posted is not in anyway shape or form flame bait in my Opinion it's nice to have some info that may explain's some thing's that people have question's about how the companies determine their sale's data. this is a sale's data site is it not? I think your being a little harsh on MikeB for this post for not very much of a good reason in my Opinion.

an you are indeed can post your Opinion about any post, no doubt but on the same token my take is on this response to his post seem's to be a little petty In my Opinion. not trying to be mean just sayin

so carl... does this mean sony reports sold through to consumers?

I dont really follow these sales threads, but why not?

Until ioi comes in and sees the thread and gives his thoughts on it, i have no reason to doubt what Sony say.

Il wait and see what the bossman says, as he has way more knowledge on the sales than probably anyone else on the site.

@mikeb

so what do you think this means for VGCharts numbers?

That's for VGChartz to find out. The PAL regions is a very hard area to track for 3rd parties, even for big commercial trackers such as GfK (which may use different criteria, like for Australia as I mentioned earlier).
