It is OBVIUS that NES, the one famous Atari the Wii and the first XBOX should be in the top 5.

Because:

Atari - made the console market relevant (alongside with commodore too)
NES - It saved the console market from saturation and crash and revolutionized it.
XBOX - Xbox Live for the first time. Halo Combat Evolved. Enough said.
Wii - It saved the market and revolutionized it again and make a new model to follow by others in the market.

I agree that there is time, but as of right now I cannot see either of them being top 10 material. Right now there are only two games on the horizon that can compare and they are both on the PS3. The Last Guardian and God of War 3.

However, Forza 3(I dont know enough about it) looks like it could easily be at least a rivla to GT5. and Alan Wake can most certainly get into that "instant classic" status. However the current lineup of games for both consoles is not even nearly good enough. The lineup rivals second rate consoles at best. I mean, Gears of war, Halo, Resistance, Killzone, LAIR, Haze, Splinter Cell, Tom Clancy shit? Not a chance at being considered a best system of all time.

Alan Wake, The Last Guardian, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5 and Forza 3 will be the games that decide the fate of these consoles. If they deliver, there's something truely wonderful to come for this gen (with them as the start.) but as of now its just rehashed shooter bullshit and space marines.

tbh i dont think reasonable person hates IGN they are often one of the most unbiased review sites. If this list made you hate them then thats your problem personally im fairly happy with the list so far. Sure theres a couple things that could be switched around but in the end its their opinion and you dont have to take it as fact just as we dont have to take your opinion as fact. In the end just chill out and enjoy all the great games

But consoles can take some credit for multiplatforms too when comparing and ranking them historically. I dunno how much, but something.

And u forgot to mention XBL, achievments and Natal.

For someone whos name, avatar, and gamertag would normally make me rage and flip out IRL, I give you props for a very well constructed and smart post.

I don't consider XBL to be anything special, Natal to me just seems like a more advanced Eyetoy, I do not see either of them being anything important. PC has had better online services than XBL for 20 years, and I don't need to pay for it twice. To me, XBL is nothing more than a money pit, a system that is designed to suck as much cash out of young gamer's parents wallets as possible while offering absolutely nothing in return. Host based gameplay is an example.

Natal on the other hand could prove to be wonderful. I find Wii controls sloppy and unfun at best, and I can imagine Natal will be the same, but it is possible MS will get it right.

Well, you're just strengthening my argument. Because the majority of ppl put great value in XBL and achievemnts, and possibly Natal (we'll see).

I'm sorry but Gears and Halo will always be considered classic franchises now and neither will be considered second rate by any unbiased critical reviewer.  I like how in your list you seemed to forget Bioshock, Portal, Super Mario Galaxy, Unchartered, Left 4 Dead, Braid, etc.  There are a loads of excellent games already released this generation and the ones mentioned above have actually innovated their respective genres too. 

I can't quite see how God Of War 3 will be anything other than GOW2 with some extra weapons and great graphics yet you consider this a generation deciding game, I think not.  Heavy Rain will be stunning graphically, yet that is hardly a metric for a great game either given the gameplay shown so far looks basic at best.  GT5 and Forza 3 will both be excellent but at the core of the issue they're driving sims which have been done many times before.  They may only get extra recognition should the features included really innovate the genre further.  I can't wait to get in FM3's livery editor this time and I'm sure GT5 will have some innovative additions too when it arrives though.  The Last Guardian, all we've seen really is a beautiful artistic trailer but I conceed the develepors track record is outstanding so it could be a instant classic.  Alan Wake will be a AAA game I'm sure but I don't see anything with it that will reinvent the wheel either so far.

Your last sentence proved the real problem with your view of this generation and thats a hatred for the more popular genre of shooters which have really excelled this generation.  Well I'll leave you now as I've just got Viva Pinata TIP to play and I may enjoy a Rock Band drumming session afterwards.
