Forums - Sales Discussion - Microsoft -- Xbox 360 Ahead of PS3 in EU by 1 MILLION!

VGChartz has the difference at ~ 300K in Europe.  However, it depends a bit on what is counted. Are you sure it's really the EU, and not "everything other than Japan and Americas"? That would be a 1.2M difference.

I counted Europe as the countries VGChartz count in Europe only, which is the 300K difference. Of course, this is sold vs shipped.

The 360 will be overtaken. The Slim be packed with GT5 in some way or form when that game comes out, then it's over. EU loves GT.

It's been said to be over many times in the past 2 years, but, we are still here.

As far as GT5, MS has Forza 3 as well, which will play well in Europe and seems to be garnering great reaction and is a great looking game. IMO perhaps graphically better looking than GT5 (though to be fair, GT5 is handicapped by rendering at 1280X1080).

@I HATE GIGGS

lol PS3 over-tracked!

or maybe VGC counts it differently too

This has come up before, and I seem to remember the discrepency was because Microsoft had some bizarre definition of Europe.

"Sony announced it had sold 10m units in the PAL territory at Gamescom two weeks ago – just days after Microsoft had revealed a 9m installed base figure for the Xbox 360 in Europe to MCV."

2 million PS3's in non European PAL is highly possible

Ms has said before that eu for them does NOT include Austrilia, New zealand or any of those that comes under pal regions. I will try and find the interview when they said this.
Also for the people who keep going on about the year head start which is all true you have to remember that before the price cut last year the 360 was behind the ps3 and also on how EU was sony strong house. I think people find it so hard to give credit where it is due if its on the "other" console.
Being the cheapest on the market the year head start all this was ment to help boost sales in these places where they knew sony have got a strong hold on.
Even if sony starts outselling them in eu(great chance) if MS can hang with them and keep selling units then look at how well they have done compaired to last gen.

@sharky974

Forza 3 bundles will not sell more than GT5 bundles.

On a side note: I would love to see Forza 3 take advantage of the Zune HD in some way. M$ has a good thing going for it with the whole Zune HD scenario and It's still 2 long weeks away. I want it now. Achievement points on the go, that's what where they need to go with this. Then give me some Zune Netflix.

VGChartz♥♥♥♥♥FOREVER

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

According to VGChartz, PS3 sold ~1m in non European PAL.

The PS3 Slim will of course help Sony greatly in Europe, but don't forget that, while Slim and Elite prices are the same in the US, there is still a 50 euros difference (Elite is going to be at 250 euros like the Wii) in europe. And the war goes on...

1.5 Million actually.

Also PS3 was not ahead of 360 in Europe (= Continental Europe + UK & Ireland) before 2008 price cut. It was ahead in Continental Europe, and still is.

VGChartz numbers:

Total Others: PS3 = 10,901,163; 360 = 12,290,181 --> Difference = ~1.39 million in favour of 360

UK: PS3 = 2,180,025 ; 360 = 3,685,670 --> Difference = ~ 1.45 million in favour of 360

Not Europe others: PS3 = ~1.5 million; 360 = ~2.6 million --> Difference = ~1.1 million in favour of 360

1.39 million - 2.55 million --> Continental Europe PS3 lead = ~1.16 million.

1.39 million - 1.1 million --> all of Europe 360 lead = ~0.29 million

That Continental Europe lead is only going to grow from here on out. Question is will the 360 hold up enough in the UK and Scandinavia to keep the 360 ahead for all of europe. 290K is a slender lead indeed for 360 in the 2nd most important sales region. Last week's Scandinavia numbers aren't terribly promising for 360 because for the first time in a while the PS3 outsold the 360 there. So it might leave UK to fight the good fight for the 360. Sales momentum looks to be with PS3 for the moment.

For Pal territories generally 360 has Aussie and Other Others to keep it in the lead, but can they hold out? HD twins combined haven't quite reached half of PS2 sales in Aussie + Other Others. Theres a fair market still out there for HD console adoption. I'll be keeping an eye on Aussie and Other Other numbers to see if they flip to PS3 on a weekly basis.
