Forums - Sony Discussion - BC or ps2, what's the difference?

I remember a lot of complaints of lack of BC on the 40GB ps3. I also remember a lot of those complaints being described as obstacles to buying the 40GB.

Back then, we used to just say, "Buy a ps2 if you really wanna play ps2 games, it's only 79$ used".

Now, we have a 120GB slim ps3 along with BC (a ps2) for 20$ less than the 40gb was. Yet there are still the same complaints we saw before the price drop.

To people who don't own a ps3 yet: Does onboard BC really make that much of a difference?

To people who do own a ps3: Do you have BC or a ps2? Or does it even matter?

Personally I don't have a ps2, and I don't see the need for one between ps3, PC, DS, and soon to be GO. Plus hanging out, and tv, and the sex and stuff. Even if I had BC I don't think I'd be playing it that much.

It's nice to have B/C since it removed clutter from my room having a Ps3 and Ps2 plus Rockband/GH stuff. However I don't think its that big of a deal. Only games I played on my Ps3 from Ps2 were KH2 since I never played it and bought GTA triolgy. I will say when I first bought my Ps3 to tide me over until Sony actually released games I bought a lot of Ps2 gems I didn't play. Honestly though I bought my Ps3 for Ps3 games.

$299 slim + $99 slim < or = $400+ fat

Nough said and i agree with u theprof, buy a ps3 to play ps3 games, if u want to buy a ps3 to play ps2 games, stick to a ps2. the slim ps2 is a gr8 piece of hardware

Above I'm a proud Gran Turismo fan, not a Sony fanboy, and now a proud 360 owner, but sharing xbox live accts ATM

End of 2009 Predictions (made Jan 1, 2009): My predictions were pretty accurate, the 360 was over and the Wii was just under.

Wii: 65 mil (yea I'm crazy) 360: 35 mil (its getting there) PS3: 30 mil (the slim better do well)

End of 2010 Predictions (made Jan 7, 2010):

Wii: 81 mil  360: 47 mil PS3: 45 mil

I have BC on my PS3 and i must say i use it alot... I am in college and didnt fell like bringing up all my sony consoles (PSone, PS2, PS3, PSP) with me so it is a nice a advantage to just have one system that can do everything...

But i dont believe it should be a reason not to buy one cause if you really wanted to play ps2 games you could probably find a used console for under 50 bucks

thanks gran, I just don't see how it can be that big of a deal. I completely agree, ps2 slim is fantastic. There's no better console on the market.

I didn't know that ps3 bc upscaled, but even so, it's not that big of a loss. I'm sure one day BC will be back. But that day won't be any time soon. Maybe when ps4 launches, ps3 will get ps2 bc in order to keep up sales.

My PS3 probably gets more PS2 time than anything. I like the wireless and the upscaling.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

people sold their ps2s to fund their ps3s-
people don't like the clutter of having two systems
people want their BC back (60gig)
the other consoles have BC
nobody wants to take one step backwards

that's all i can think of atm

With a PS2 and PS3 I get:

  • A PS2 sitting in the middle of nowhere because I have no room in my entertainment center.
  • Have to deal with another input in my receiver.
  • Have to deal with a console that doesn't have wireless controllers (yes, there are those crappy 3rd party ones but they're crappy).
  • I can't turn on my PS2 with my universal remote.

With my PS3 with BC I get:

  • One less console so less clutter
  • upscaled games

So yeah, I still think it's shitty that at the start of this generation that Sony was all about BC and laughed at others for not having it and now it's not important.  Luckily I have a PS3 with BC but then there's the chance that if it breaks (and it's starting to get really loud and about 2/3 of the time doesn't recognize any of my BlueTooth devices) and I send it in for repairs I won't get a BC PS3 back.

those are all good features, but is it really a reason not to buy something?
When i got dvd, i didn't care about getting a dvd/vcr. I just used both... but maybe it's not the a good comparison.
