Don't get a slim. BC > Slim anyday.
Slim was just released and your system YLOD. Isn't that a clear sign? :)
I dread the thought of this ever happening to me. I have over a hundred PS2 games, and tons of songs on Singstar. If my Real PS3 dies, I will be devistated. I have all my Videos backed up on MS, and not enough USB ports as it is. If I can't get my system fixed, I will be done with Sony for this gen.

If its any consolation - mine also YLOD'd for the third time the day before the Slim came out. I have now given up on it and am going to buy a Slim today. I prefer the fat ones. Must get an extended warranty this time.
By the way - mine had Dead Space stuck in the drive. If you do the fan-thing a few times, you should be able to get the disc out. Turn the power off at the back, hold the eject button and turn power back on. This should turn the fan on (even if its YLOD). Do this a few times and eventually the disc will come out.

So, if Sony lose money selling him a PS3 Slim and he lose money buying a new Slim, where did the money go?
There's a conspiracy going on here!

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.
I've heard of two different causes for the YLoD. The first, and most common, is basically the same thing as the typical RRoD. Heat causes the motherboard to warp slightly, which places strain on the solder contacts. This causes damage which accumulates over time, until the contacts break and the system dies. The second cause is power supply failure. Realistically this can only be fixed by replacing the power supply, so it's something only Sony can do. Check out the thread on the PlayStation forums:

This problem is far more widespread than most people think. If you do send your system in for repair, it is possible that it will break again - and Sony will charge you for repairs every time it happens. So far the defect seems to be limited to launch systems, but it's still too early to be sure.
