Sounds to me they mishandled the stock clear out especially considering the sales were low. They now have a vacumn to fill in addition to extra demand.

I wonder why they thought it a good idea to launch the slim (comparatively) so late to most of the rest of the world...

Well new games are usually released in Japan on Thursdays and Sep. 3rd is a Thursday. Of course they could have released it THIS WEEK instead of waiting until next week, but I guess they wanted it to be a September release.

Only really big releases like Pokemon or Dragonquest get released on a different day, usually Saturday.

The low sales numbers of PS3 in Japan and all regions as the old stock is cleared to make way for the PS3 Slim launch.

There will be a huge PS3 Slim sales launch week around the world during early September. The change from the low sales of PS3 the previous week and high sales of PS3 Slim opening week will be staggering in terms of sales numbers and increase in sales volume percentages. Expect late 2009 PS3 sales to be 40 to 60% increase in comparison to sales of PS3 for same period in 2008.
