Forums - Nintendo Discussion - MP Trilogy "Name the Differences" Thread

Found a new one, actually. It used to be that Ice Pirates could be destroyed by a missile when frozen solid, which is no longer the case. Now only Ice Beams can harm them even while frozen.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Belive it or not one of the most comment differences in some blogs is that "Damn" word

I dunno if anyone has noticed this yet, but in the original Prime, your arm cannon would expel excess energy based on what you were charging (ice, electricity, etc.). In Prime Trilogy, it's been removed. I'm guessing it has something to do with the free aiming of the Wii remote changing the way the arm cannon interacts on screen.

I remember that. The Ice Beam would release a sort of mist right?

Another obvious difference is that Log entry percentage no longer unlocks art, but the ability to buy art.

Basically, name any subtle (or not so subtle) differences in how the games of Metroid Prime Trilogy operate compared to their original editions.

I'm determined to do it in order, so i've only seen Metroid Prime, a game which i have to have played through at least a dozen times, and memorized a lot of it, so its easy for me to read into the subtle differences. Please add anything you've found.

I'll start with what i've seen so far, for Metroid Prime
1: Change in missile ammo classifications: previously being only a 5-missile ammo set, now comes in increments of 3, 5, and 10.
2: The music used for the Flaagra boss-fight is somewhat different
3: The eyes on the Reaper Tentacles blink now (pretty sure that wasn't the case before, unless i never looked closely at them)
4: Automatic morph ball jumps (pretty sure most people knew about this, but i have to mention it, because it makes getting the energy tank that required triple-ball jumps brokenly easy)
5: Your completion levels are now displayed on the Log Book screen, in terms of percentages of items collected and log entries scanned.
6: Better water textures, something i picked up on in the Flaagra fight.

What else has anyone found?

Point 1 and 5 (probably even 2 and 3, but I can't say for sure) were already in the PAL Gamecube version which should be identical with the later released Player's Choice edition in North America. If you are basing this thread on the original American release, you'll notice plenty of other changes later on in the game, most notable some additional obstacles that have to be removed by power bombs (were added to prevent sequence breaking).

Another thing you mentioned, the Phendrana Labs going completely dark, was also already the case on the Gamecube.

That reminds me, all the Lore is Prime 1 is from the PAL version.

I was actually wondering whether that was the case or not, since i did have the NA launch version of Metroid Prime, and remember hearing that there were a few revisions

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Today, i discovered that they filled the Fungal Halls in the Phazon Mines with Fission Metroids, abominable Fission Metroids. Only after you beat the Omega Pirate, though. Quite a shock when the Metroid i killed just splint in two, and then i realized.

What kind of changes in difficulty are there? I heard that some of the bosses in Prime 2 were made easier. Anyone got on to them yet?

Well i beat the boost and spider guardians dieing only once. Those are supposed to be insanely tough right?

Yeah they were insanely tough in the Gamecube, although I didn't have trouble on the spider guardian in the original Prime 2. The boost guardian was a different story....I died at least 4 times against him 5 years ago. I will never forget that.

More changes: the animation for the Phazon Suit is different when you acquire it and the Hive Mecha in MP1 sent out way more war wasp thingies on the 3rd run.

The jingle when you get a key in different.
