The PS3 should definitely outsell the 360 for several weeks.

But! The 360 still has an edge with the $199 console. Last I heard that's the best selling model.

australia just said its half and half between pro and arcade there. and 360 fans claim pro is the best selling model.

Well Australia makes up a small part of over all sales. I can't go with what 360 fans claim.

Its been proven, well worked out on here that the pro is the best selling of the sku's.
Ignore Jede3.

He counters reasonable arguments by acting like they are nonsense then gives you own special brand of nonsense.

And I'm surprised it took to the second page before someone used 'the list'

SONY has the advantage.. for the same price as the elite you get- bluray playback, region free gaming, free online, wifi included.. Now thats not a bad deal at all.. n its slimmer, lighter and less power consuming than the 360 and doesnt have a 10 pound powerbrick! heck Im getting one this xmas!

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

I'm readin' some funny shit in here!

My money is on the PS3, tho. Two big things; $ cut and whole new, better model. M$ on the other hand had there time last holiday season with there price cut, this time, however M$'s Elite price cut just isn't agressive enough.

See, the PS3 is considered to be of higher quality (the price tag alone says this), by most consumers and Blu-ray is still considered very expensive and high-end (along with the PS3). Being the most expensive and slowest to decrease in $ has very big advantages in price cut time. So, people will see bigger value in the Slim. I do know a lot of people that have been waiting just for a good price cut on the PS3. The Slim is just icening on the cake, really.

$299... now it's heating up!

360 is at its end, games from here on out are going to be similar, nothing special, the only thing halo 3 odst will do is make it a fun, face it halo is old and boaring, its all the same, it looks like they finally took a new spin on things , about time, its like 3 killzone2 all the same. people in america are smart, when you look at what 360 gives vs ps3 its no comparison, really this year 360 has halo 3 odst, and nothing, ps3 has infamous , killzone 2, uncharted 2, god of war 3, new ratchet and clank, final fantasy exclusive, heavy rain, just to name a few, all the other good games are on both 360 and ps3, mostly everybody who wants a 360 has one, its ps3 that people have been waiting for to be more affordible, sorry noy trying to troll, i know all the 360 fan boys will have there panties in a bunch now, but it is what it is. ps3 ers dont even worry, it will happen its just a matter of time!!!!

We know you're not trying - you're succeeding!

Out of curiosity, what PS3 game out today makes people want to spend 300 bucks on its system?

You could make the PS3 the same price as the 360 Arcade, but seriously there is absolutely no software support for the unit in America. I know you all want to throw Infamous,MGS4,Killzone 2 in my face but that is not nearly enough to retake the crown in America. Even FF13 is getting a 360 port. Hardcore Sony fans want to throw Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2, GoW 3, and several others in my face like they all are going to have the same mass appeal as the 360's crown jewel Halo, but sadly that is not the case.

And no, I am not a Microsoft fanboy, but the company does one thing extremely well, and that's advertise. Starting September 1st I am sure that you will see a Halo commercial for ODST that has some obscure indie song and awesome cutscenes that will skyrocket that game in sales. Where's the counterpart?

Thats true, MS is advertising king, at least in US.

Only Counterpart i can see, which isnt confirmed yet, is GT5.

Im sure Halo ODST sells well, but i doubt it pushes HW as well as a Slim combined with $cut and GT5.

US is 360 land, lets have a look whether the dark samurai can rule the rost this year. It will be close...

"Absolutely no software support for America" come on that's a major overstatement. PS2 didn't have Halo 1 or 2 either but it seemed to sell pretty well. If you have a suite of 8 games that cover a lot of gamer demographics then that can easily make up for a single franchise. If 50,000 people buy a PS3 because they want Uncharted 2, and another 50,000 buy one because they want R&C:aCiT, and another 50,000 buy one because they want GOW III, and another 50,000 for GT5, and 10,000 each for inFamous, KZ2, MGS4 (because they've all be out for a while already), that'll well and truly take care of ODST's system pushing potential. You don't need one magic bullet when you've got several high powered bullets that will collectively get the job done.

You're right that ODST will skyrocket in sales, the big question is whether it can skyrocket the hardware. I have my doubts about that. Since when does an expansion pack push a lot of hardware. Since when does an expansion pack push any hardware? I'm thinking the normal course is that expajnsioon packs push exactly zero hardware in most cases. I think because it's Halo it might push more than one would expect (i.e. more than zero), but it still won't push a lot.

it will outsell the 360 until the launch of halo odst, then the 360 will win back a couple of weeks until probably uncharted 2 comes out where sony will push back but it will be a week to week battle from there on in the states however its good news for sony to stay close to the 360 this holiday in the states to gain marketshare this means more support from publishers and results in more games being pushed for the ps3

Sony has virtually zero chance of outselling MS in the US outside of the next 4 weeks or so. Once ODST hits, it will be MS back on top. The holidays will handily go to MS because of the arcade bundles that are sure to come. $299 is still way to expensive at the moment.

In 2010, MS will probably bury Sony (and possibly even Nintendo) with Natal.

OUS, Sony will be ahead for the rest of the year. However, when Natal launches it will be up for grabs, although I give MS a better chance of winning EU than Sony. Japan is a foregone conclusions so it isn't worth talking about.

This is where I stopped taking this post seriously.

Japapn is still a VERY important market btw, whether you want to admit it or not. For Microsoft to rule this industry, they must rule there as well.

Anyone that doesn't think that NATAL will radically shift the balance isn't paying attention or is being deliberately obtuse.

Natal's going to bury Sony & Nintendo? Are you paying attention to what you're posting?

If not, I'd say give it a try...

Sigh, where do you people learn to read?  I said probably bury Sony ( probably = >50% chance ) and possibily Nintendo (possibly = something greater than 10-15%).

At this point, the HD wars (and maybe the whole market) in the US is MS' to lose.

As long as it deliveries on its promise (which is not guarenteed hence the lower than unity probilities), NATAL completely changes the landscape.  As a strategy professional and long time gamer, in my expert opinion NATAL will be the single most influential event in gaming since the introduction of the 2600.
