This is rather difficult...

1. Final Fantasy IV (Wonderful setting, character development, music, coherence and profound story progression made this my most memorable gaming experience)

2. Final Fantasy VI (Much like like FFIV, it excelled in many of the same strengths. The themes just rung a bit further from the heart for me)

3. Super Mario Bros. 3 (I still haven't found a platformer that I find more fun than this game... and I love platformers)

4. StarCraft (This game features the most fun gameplaying experience I've ever had. That, along with incredible balance and a fiercely competitive online community make this one of my favourites)

5. Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (Refuses to take itself seriously. Filled with quirky humour, Disgaea had me giggling throughout the 40 or so hours required to finish. To compliment its hilarious dialogue, there is plenty of extras, as well as tried and true SRPG gameplay... of which I'm a sucker for)

6. The Secret of Monkey Island (Much like Disgaea, this game refuses to take itself seriously. With some of the best dialogue I've ever witnessed in a videogame, this makes for my favourite in the adventure genre)

7. Secret of Mana (Awesome gameplay, music, world, and upgrading system. But what made it really special was its multiplayer)

8. Final Fantasy Tactics (My first foray into SRPGs and what a way to start, it has since become my favourite genre. The gameplay, job system, characters, music, art direction, everything... just flawless)

9. World of Warcraft (While I enjoyed the lore and played some of the content, it was the addictiveness of the PVP battlegrounds that got me hooked. So simple, strategic, (sometimes) balanced made for a great experience. Both the music and sound were amazing, too)

10. Shadow of the Colossus (Because I only played this one fairly recently, I haven't as much time playing or reflecting with this one as much as I had the others... that being said, this could easily crack the top 5. I can't think of anything I did not absolutely love about this game)

This would change the next time I tried to make this list I think, but let's try. Oh and for the record, these are just the 10 I can think of, NOT in order from 1-10, that would be too freaking hard.

1) Gears of War 2
2) Halo Combat Evolved
3) Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn
4) Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar
5) Lunar: The Silver Star
6) Final Fantasy VII
7) System Shock II
8) Half-Life
9) Bioshock
10) Mass Effect

Lost Odyssey could easily make this list, as could Planescape: Torment. Hell Zork ate a lot of my time when I was younger. What about Fallout 3, and Oblivion?? Hmmm...this list could be very different even if I only made it later today.

I'll put games that impressed me the most rather than better ( that's harder to rate ^^):
1 - Zelda - bout 1000 hours of play time on this ^^

2 - Final Fantasy 6 - epic

3 - Secret of mana - epic

4 - Zelda a link to the past - great retooling of the story and gameplay

5 - Diablo - random levels?

6 - Counterstrike - not so much the game itself as the first online experience… unmatched since.

7 - Warcraft 2 - my first RTS... lucky pick (the box art was nice).

8 - super mario Bros 3 - mario racoon =D

9 - God of War - felt very fresh

10 - Gears of War 2 - had not played the one yet… so this is the game that impressed me the most this gen. The cover system and 3rd person view as well as the slower controls and aiming that fits perfectly with a gamepad type of shooter.

if I had to say the best games.. damn that be hard to choose with the likes of starcraft, metroid, civilisation, all the other marios and zeldas, chrono trigger, goldeneye.... unfortunately, recent games I finish faster to they leave less of an impression...

(I edited.... i forgot mana in my list !!! argg and street fighter 2 also ^^)

Very Classy Thread!

hehehe

Now lets see:

1) Super Mario Bros 3...Mario Tanuki FTW! (just like Hephaestos said)

2) Animal Crossing (Gamecube)...it was a huge surprise by the time it was released. Shame the other two games dont do too much for the series)

3) Resident Evil 4....brilliant game if you ask me, it really help the franchise and the entire Adventure genre...if you dont believe me, look at Gears of Wars (Another kick ass game BTW)

4) DuckTales (NES)...Life is like a hurricane, Here in Duckburg. Race Cars, lasers, aeroplanes. It´s a Duckblur. Might solve the mystery. Or rewrite history....

5) MGS 3 Snake Eater...MGS just got better (i havent played MGS4 yet...but i will)

6) Super Smash Bros Brawl... A roster full of Awesome Nintendo characters, PLUS: Solid Snake and Sonic (Where is Megaman, and even Pacman T.T), trophies with their respective biography, and a huge collaboration of musicians of the industry for the over 300 tracks from the game. Do i Need to say more?

7) Goldeneye 007...´nuff said

8) Team Fortress 2... the replacements for my addiction to Goldeneye...it takes you long to come...UNLESS IT´S A FARM!

9) Earthworm Jim...if you want to talk about really great animation in videogames, you have to talk about Earthworm Jim.

10) Yoshi´s Island (SNES)...Yoshi, you and your game are AWESOME!

Hmmm, this is too hard, so I'm going to make a list of top 10 games I've replayed the most! It would be something like this:

10. Metal Gear Solid (PS/GCN): The game is short, but has its moments. I love it!
9. Super Metroid (SNES): Finding the perfect paths to minimize your total time is what makes it exciting!
8. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64/VC): Just the whole game is an experience.
7. Metroid Prime (GCN, hopefully Wii soon): Playing the game with the lowest % of collectable items is always fun. Plus, there's a way to get the Space Jump Boots right at the beginning!
6. Aladdin (SNES): I used to play this a lot when I was a kid. I still love it!
5. Bionic Commando Rearmed (360/PC): I've been perfecting my time ever since I got it. Such a faithful recreation of this great Capcom classic!
4. Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA): Another Metroid game, always fun.
3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES): I do different runs for this game, from 100% completion ones to lowest % ones. Always fun!
2. Star Fox (SNES): I can do all three paths in one sitting. I'm crazy!
1. Star Fox 64 (N64/VC): Best Star Fox game ever. Lots of replayability + four-player split-screen multiplayer? Win!

Oh yeah, and here's my list of games that you can complete in around an hour:

10. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (SNES): Old-school beat-em up. With my bro, it's always fun.
9. Mega Man 2 (NES): What can I say? The full package rocks!
8. R-Type (MAME/TurboGrafx-16/XBLA): The Bydo has nothing on that R-9!
7. Contra (NES): No Konami code, just pure skills.
6. Ikaruga (DC/GCN/XBLA): I'm trying to perfect my run on the hardest difficulty level. It's not as easy as it sounds!
5. Radiant Silvergun (SAT): Perfecting the combos is quite something, but fun.
4. Contra III: The Alien Wars (SNES/VC): Co-op is always better than playing solo. Probably the best Contra game out there.
3. Mega Man X (SNES): Best Mega Man X game out there. Always fun, I can even complete the game without getting hit once!
2. R-Type Delta (PS): First 3D R-Type was awesome. I want moar!
1. Gradius (NES/PS2/PSP): What can I say? It's the game that introduced me to SHMUPs. I love it.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
