Forums - Sales Discussion - the ps3 will sell 100 milllion?

ps3 might or might not. it depends on how sony acts. i think after gt5, uncharted2, ff13 14, gow3, etc etc will be help building ps3 momentum for 2009 and 2010, but it is up to sony to keep bringing good titles and expanding bluray market.

yes yes, much like MGS4, GTA 4, Resistance 2, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted 1, LBP, and Ratchet and Clank, will build PS3 momentum.

I think the PS3's best sofwatare is now behind it, with only GT5 and FF 13 in the future. GoW3, uncharted 2 and FF 14 will not be system movers outside of the first week. GT5 and FF 13 are the only two games out of everything announced that will have any sustained boost beyond the first week.

Seriously worst case scenario is they sale 50ish million. No way other then alien invasion do they sale less then that.

100m wont be all that hard, market has expended more then you all give it credit for, more nations are getting richer gaming is becoming viewed more a legit pass time then ever before.

I don't think it will...
Even with the price cut and huge games to be released, i think it sounds more realistic for it seeling at most 80 million...

PS3 = 70 to 75 million lifetime sales and that is being optimistic.
PS3 is 3 years old and around 24 million or something. So if it sells another 50 million systems then that will be a fairly good effort considering its slow start and high launch price of $600.

MOMENTUM!

Your prediction is like smashing two pieces of rock together, and saying that two colliding planets would have the same result., because it's all the same, but on a billion times bigger scale.
Except that you ignored MOMENTUM. Huge and fast objects have lots of it, and if they would suddenly lose it, and it would transform into energy that would make them explode.

You can't ignore the consoles actual popularity, because you would ignore MOMENTUM too. PS2 sold a lot after the Slim, because it was already popular, its popularity brought even more exclusives, sales, good word of mouth, etc.
The PS3 is not that popular, and it is losing exclusives, sales, gets bad word of mouth, so it goes a downwards spiral instead of upwards.

PS2 had weak/limited competition (XBox and Gamecube) and had a lot of third party exclusive titles.
PS3 has strong competition (Wii and XBox 360) and has few third party exclusive titles.

Things have changed significantly this generation and PS3 is not the lead console anymore, it is in last place and will need a miracle to even finish second.

Anymore? When was it in the lead?!

What, son, what? New York, New York!!!

Very possible, very unlikely though.

75-80M would be my bet if current sales rates continue for the next 7 years.

The XBox 360 will outsell PS3 in lifetime sales. The latest $100 PS3 price cut is a desperate act by Sony to stay in the console sales race.
2010 XBox 360 price cuts will blow the PS3 sales out of the water. A pattern is emerging PS3 and XBox 360 price cuts will occur once every two years.

i laugh at people who laugh at the 10 year cycle.
