I don't really think I can rightly make a top 5 list, since my biggest and most important period of watching Wrestling was int he attitude era when I was a teen, and I ate up shit like the HArdys and edge and Christian. But if I had tomake a list, it'd look something like this:

1 - Chris Jericho
2 - Edge
3 - Daniel Bryan
4 - CM Punk
5 - Jeff Hardy

Though I can see folks like Rollins and Ambrose and Zayn and Cesaro and a bunch of other new talent competing with them. I certainly have a 'style' of wrestler I like most. cocky, arrogant, lithe but crafty, good with the mic (except Jeff), etc. Then again, I've always been the kind of guy who likes the risk takers and high flyers.

All-time? That's tough. It's hard to compare generations.

Shawn Michaels
Ric Flair

Yeah, this is too hard.

Oh right, Shawn michaels is great!  Weirdly enough, though, The time I watched miraculously lined up with when he DIDN'T wrestle.  I watched intermittently in 1998, then watched until 2002, then slowed down, only watching a bit here and there up until 2004 when I stopped.  At that point, I was out of the game until 2011, after he'd retired.  That's when I started watching again, so I missed virtually the entirety of his run with the company.

But I'm not dumb enough to disregard him, I just never got invested in him as a character.

I didn't see the Micheals/Hart era first-hand.  I did watch some of the Attitude era but it was while flipping back and forth with Nitro (Nitro was my main).  That means it was his return in 2002 that really made me a believer.  His series of incredible matches against Undertaker, Jericho, Angle, Triple H, Benoit, and even Cena were some of the best ever.  He was rarely great as a promo or backstage character guy but his best work inside the ring took the place of that.  He was a master at telling a story with wrestling.  As a fan, that's my favorite thing about wrestling, being able to construct a narrative in the ring that manipulates the veiwer's emotions and expectations.

So, I wouldn't say he was my favorite character or anything, it didn't glue me to the TV when he would speak, but the matches in his feuds were often electric.

Whoa, just came across a rumor of Tommy End going to NXT.  Never thought that would happen.  The guy comes across as such a badass and certainly not the old "WWE prototype".  He is very "mma", though, which the WWE might covet.

My favourite wrestler? I'll always have a soft spot for Hogan. I still remember watching the promo of Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior on Superstars. I had no idea they were actually going to fight each other as I didn't get my "unlock channels" box until later and I didn't understand a word they were saying. Only time I saw Hogan wrestle on T.V. since that was the only Superstars he was on. I really adored Hogan. Terry Bollea on the other hand, is a POS. Reading about all the crap he did. Not even the racism. Just the way he would play politics. Though it was funny how frustrated Shawn Michaels got after being out politicked for the first time in his life by Hogan.

My all time favourite though, is Bret Hart. Other than Owen Hart, there hasn't really been anyone like him in the ring. Just the psychology he brought to his matches. I mean, re-watching his matches now, they were honestly a work of art. It makes me sad that no one even tries to bring that kind of in ring capabilities. The way he knew how to mix up holds and spots in his matches. We'll probably never see that again (Especially looking at the current set of wrestlers and their lack of chain wrestling).

Not sure I can make a top 5 though. Macho Man, Jake, Undertaker, Shawn, Austin, Rock. There were a lot of great characters.

On another note, my favourite era was actually 1990 - 1998. I ate up everything then. I mean, I liked the attitude era as much as anybody, but it really doesn't hold up well today. Way too much non-sense. Too many factions, too much Russo booking. Though I probably like the early to mid 90s more because of nostalgia. Though that was a transition period that was pretty unheard of. Superior tag teams. Great mat technicians. There was still a hold over of promos capabilities from the 80s you just don't see today. I don't think we'll ever get that again unless wrestlers who do some research into the past, come along.
