Forums - Sony Discussion - Would you be shocked if Sony had planned all of this?

Sony wanted Microsoft to underestimate them and then all of sudden, they come back on top with a pricecut and slim?

While it makes sense to any company to keep youself low most of times, Sony indeed needed the PS3 to sell at its former pricepoint. Losing a lot of money is more of a threat than a competitive Microsoft, so to speak.

WTF?? What type of question is this? Sony purposely lost loads of money? And will now have the sales of its PS3 boosted for 3-4 weeks. Genius plan!

I am assuming this is a joke thread but the joke sucks...

Elaine: I will never understand people

Jerry: They're the worst.

I doubt Sony intentionally hurt themselves for years just to come back with this announcement. And if it was planned, what a horrible plan.

No, you're not right about that. But Sony did most definitely plan the losses. They knew what the tech would cost, it didn't matter how many PS3s Sony sold at the start of the release. They _lost_ money on every PS3 sold. The more they sold, the worse their position was.

I strongly believe Sony predicted the losses and was waiting for the moment when they started to make a profit and have the system at a reasonable price for the public.

I would become apoplectic if I discovered that this was Sony's plan. It would be one of the biggest WTF moments in recent history.

"on top" of what exactly?

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony planned this after they revised their stragety. But from the get go? Hell no they didn't. They probablly would want this drop just be the one to 400.
