Forums - Sales Discussion - I'm sad to say the PS3 will crush the 360 this hiliday season :/

I think Crush is an over estimate. After all, the entire industry expected this move. Its unlikely that Microsoft has been blindsided.

Yeah but not by a big boost in this financial year. Next year is Sony.

I'm a 360 fan but I own both consoles, the PS3 will outsell the 360 by a lot this holiday season. The pricecut on the elite isn't going to help the sales that much. People look at the cost of the cheapest model, they don't really know what comes with the console.

However everyone knows the ps3 comes with a blue ray player and the see the cost of that and wonder, should i just spend an extra 20 dollars and get the game console instead? Then people buy the PS3.... The ps3 will sell 1.5-2.5 million more than the 360 this holiday.../thread

Whoa, man!

It's not that hard to believe.  Over the 2007 holiday season, the ps3 and 360 sold neck and neck.  In 2008, MS dropped their base price by $80 and outsold the ps3 by 3 million.  This holiday, Sony is the one cutting prices, shaving off a full $100.  Plus there's FFXIII in Japan and possibly GT5 too.

It would not surprise me to see last holiday season reversed this year.

Also keep in mind that with the ps3's new price cut, price parity has finally been achieved between the ps3/360 in the US.  We're looking at a 120gb Slim @ $299 vs a 120gb Eilte @ $299.  Only one of these comes with a Blu-ray drive, wi-fi, and free online play.

Of course, the Arcade's low price will probably be pretty popular with parents looking for cheap Christmas presents. This should give MS a nice advantage over the holidays, helping the 360 vs the ps3.  After the holidays, however, I expect the ps3 to have a decent lead in weekly sales, much like how the ps3 outsold the 360 even in America through out early 2008, though it did not manage to do so over the 2007 holiday season.

Let's hope that's true. PS3 needs to close that gap down.

wanna bet MS is gonna say "there's a 360 shortage and that's why they outsold us". or something like that.

Well, Sony is probably hoping...and planning to outsell the 360...but will they? And if they do...by how much? I think it is very plausible, however, I don't think the amount will be too significant.

poor microsoft =(
i declare them officially dead in japan.

Why are you sad about it??

I think that the PS3 has got the best exclusive's en now it also got a nice price...

So why are you sad??

Be happy

I'm actually interested in the PS3 now. Even though it's more expensive than the 360 it just seems more attractive to me. I couldn't care less about Blu-Ray so perhaps it's the percieved higher quality of the PS3 that I have or maybe it's the free online play (I wouldn't ever pay a subscription to be able to use one of a games selling points).

I wonder if the general consumer is the same as me..
