Forums - Gaming Discussion - 2009 is one of the worst years in gaming in recent years.

I agree that it isnt that good but with Little King's Story, NSMBros. and the vast improvements for the music games (RB and GH) this year that should be enough to hold me over.

I think people who have issues finding games to play need to look into the downloadable game services. PSN and XBLA have had some great games this year, particularly during the slower gaming seasons that can help keep you busy. I've had a pretty good year partly due to PSN.

...

Agree with OP but then again, I find this entire generation shitty compared to previous ones. One long sigh, its finally looking up but I've never gone this far into a generations cycle without owning a single console before!

I would agree with the sentiment that compared to last year this year has been rather lackluster. The truth is the droughts have lasted longer this year, and the mid year titles have been very much absent. For anyone owning or using a single console it hasn't been very good at all. Even having a good last few months will not conceal that we didn't have a lot to choose from in the spring or even in the summer.

Last year by this time I had purchased four games, and so far this year I have only purchased two games. Last year I actually had some difficult choices this year I haven't had any difficult choices. The only thing that really tided me over this year was downloading content for Fallout 3. Honestly I doubt most posters cannot say the same thing. We have gotten by for the last eight months on just a few titles that are good enough for us.

Those vouching for this holiday season need to take their edge off. We have a lot of unknown quantities in that mix, and hardly enough diversity. A couple of months ago we would have said we have more then we need. Now we have just enough to put together a handful of titles, and even then we are gambling on some titles actually being top notch.

I agree this year has been fairly mediocre, and the next few months have a lot of questions. I doubt anyone that is rational is fully confident in their picks for the next few months, and if some of those go south on us. Well then our lists will get real pathetic real fast.

Let's see, I think this year has been pretty decent, and I've bought a few games from previous years this year.

Games by month
Jan:
Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip
Elite Beat Agents (DS)
Metal Slug 7 (DS)
Feb:
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (DS)
Golden Sun (and sequel) (GBA)
LittleBigPlanet (PS3)
Apr:
Geometry Wars: Galaxies (Wii)
Killzone 2 (PS3)
May:
EA Sports Active (Wii)
Chibi Robo (GC)
The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (GBA)
Punch-Out!! (Wii)
June:
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (Wii)
July:
Prince of Persia (PS3)
Trace Memory (DS)

Future Games I'm purchasing or would love to purchase but probably won't until a later date due to me not having enough money (as in 2010):
Aug:
Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii)
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (DS)
Sep:
Scribblenaughts (DS)
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (DS)
Dirt 2 (PS3)
Muramasa: The Demon Blade (Wii)
Oct:
A Boy and His Blob (Wii)
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Wii)
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time (PS3)
Nov:
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS)
New Super Mario Bros Wii (Wii)
Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage (Wii)
Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon (Wii)
Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)
Dec:
The Saboteur (PS3)

So, I bought 16 games (11 of them were from the previous year though) in 6 months, and I have 15 brand new full price games I want in the last half the year and easily half of those will spill into 2010 to keep me entertained, just like the last half 08 games are keeping me entertained in early 09. Honestly, I don't see how you wouldn't be able to keep yourself entertained unless you truly have a very narrow range of genres you enjoy, or you bought the wrong system.

So there, I just posted a completely usesless post that was mostly for myself to see what I've bought

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

I dont agree with the generalization of the quality of the year. Depends on the console that you have.

I repeat:

If you own a Wii is a good year (mantains the good performance).

If you own a PS3 is a excellent year (better every year).

If you own a xbox360 is a really poor year (like last year).

On the plus side it's been a pretty good year for useless fanboy trolling. (Hooray for my first ban!) OP: I disagree, RE5 is tied for my favorite game this gen. This year is a win for me!

XBLA/PSN are probably the best thing to come out of this generation. There are DD only games that are better than even the most hyped retail releases.
