Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony may pull a Sega and shut down SCEI.

Nice first post "sales". I guess you are "new" to the site.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Not at all. She's been bringing us all the hot Sega news straight from Zach Morris for a while now.

Except for the fact that the PS3 will probably sell 10 million consoles in Japan alone this Gen while Microsoft probably won't reach 2 million there and if MS does raise the 360's price in Europe things will be back there the way they were before the last pricecut with the PS3 beating 360 ieach and every week by 20,000 or more.

After reading thru the statements.. all i can say is this console will live thru 10 years. It's got the potential to stay long in the market.

I doubt it'll be that bad, but it's nice to see that opinions that differ from the consensus that Sony will be just fine are picking up steam. Healthy debate is healthy.

This is exactly the type of "advice" that was being given to Nintendo a few years back.

But there does not seem to much facts to back up the claims -- and a lot of facts missing.

Plus, if the pre-orders are to be believed, more people want TB:RB on the Wii than any other system in the US (which may speak to the Baby Boomer base on the Wii and the fact that music games are beginning to lose their luster for everyone else).

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Yeah, no. It was poorly written with no substance.

Even a much smaller company, SEGA, took a lot more hits in losing consoles before they pulled the plug. There is no way Sony is even contemplation shutting down their gaming division. Playstation is a huge brand.

Late last year it looked like a distinct possibility, since Sony overall was in a bad spot, and SCEI in particular was loss-heavy, but we knew even then that profitability was just out of reach for the branch, and Sony wouldn't get anywhere by acting hastily

That said, this article would have been much better placed back when the idea of Sony's losses was more relevant

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

That is a load of crap. There is a reason it is more expensive, everyone else know Sony are losing money on each PS3 sold, but he still thinks they should cut the price. And the new PSP strategy will shift consoles for several reasons. The main one is that the overpriced go will subsidise a PS3 price cut, and say this Christmas I buy a PSP go, and I just happen to get MS Arctic Edge, GT, Resistance Retribution, God of War: Chains of Olympus and LittleBigPlanet, and then I think, why don't I get a PS3 instead of an Xbox (I was thinking of upgrading from my PS2 anyway) and I can get all the big brothers of these games, and Uncharted 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, we all know Sony aren't giving up
