Forums - Sony Discussion - Does Sony suck at keeping secrets?

You can't really keep the Slim and Go! a secret. There´s just too many people involved.

But the Core leak confirming the Go!, GT PSP and a new MGS was pretty bad and unintentional.

Dunno about the Trico footage

No they want us to know, it's just PR.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

I don't believe it to be intentional. It might be intentional if we were talking about a few days or a week ahead of time. However, leaking the price cut and a system redesign as far ahead as they did only serves to retard sales while people wait for them to arrive.

Keep this in mind when reading what I type...

I've been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.

they suck at marketing

Anyone claiming that Sony intentionally leaks is extremely naive. Firstly it accomplishes nothing, and it gives the competition an advantage. Talk about never having the element of surprise. Further more it kills your credibility, and educates consumers to gain knowledge from rumors. Which guess what means you have to debunk bogus rumors, and that consumers will be confused about the true nature of something after you officially announce it. Leaking is just bad business, and if we have learned anything Sony isn't doing a very good job right now. Hasn't for quite some time. The simplest answer is usually the right one. Sony has piss poor corporate security. I sure as hell would not assume they are somehow being clever.

A billion truths right there.

Evolution does function from a simple principle that leads to more and more complex results.

slim was kind of expected, so any rumour was taken more to heart than it would have been otherwise had there not been an expectation.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

I don't see that they wanted to reveal Ps3 slim...Since it really hurts sales.
So they suck at it.

@ Dodece

If the simplest answer is usually the correct answer. Then its a really easy case for "it was intentional to build up hype for future products", because its free marketing. How is "A multi-billion dollar company with security problems on secret projects" the simplest answer? Also, how come its only the PS3 Slim we heard about and not something from one of their other dozen or so divisions? So now the security leaks are selective?

Every company fields questions about rumors and leaks, its part of business. And if consumers are still confused after something is officially announced, they deserve to stay confused. As for the competition, by doing this you can actually get your competition to reveal their plans early as well. Which has already happened, 360 Pro got discontinued and the Elite is now $299.
