Its only not any good if it doesnt happen.

If it goes on much longer, then no.

If it comes to pass, it's free marketing and that's always good. If it doesn't come to pass, the backlash will be formidable.

lots of free internet marketing vs. 'shocker' announcement... Hmm... I think the marketing outweighs the shocker announcement. There's plenty of casuals/less informed (most people) that will still be buying ps3s regardless of internet rumors they haven't heard of.

Well the people that heard the rumor are not buying PS3 now and are waiting for the slim to release. This is hurting the PS3 sales now, but looks like the first week the slim is released will have great sales (>Wii?). If the slim doesn't come out by September, then, yes it is a very bad thing.

I'm waiting for the slim to release so i can repurchase a ps3. If this rumor turns out to be a flop- then that's one less sale :\. It's good for the hype but detrimental for current sales

Depends on if it's real or not.

I just think we shouldn't get too overhyped for this. We are expecting A LOT from GamesCom, and now that it's been confirmed that their conference is only 1 hour long, I doubt our expectations will even come close to being fully met. :( But I hope at the very least a Price-cut is announced, and some major firmware 3.0 update is going down... along with a major PSN update.
