I don't know if GT4 is an entirely fair comparison for GT5. The size of the userbase is likely to have a reasonably significant effect on the sales.

Nope....cause if thats the case then how the hell did MGS4 outsold MGS3 by being on a console with a much smaller userbase than ps2.
