It is clear that Microsoft will lose this generation for gaming systems (at least from the standpoint of Hardware units sold) but it also looks like they will lose the search engine war before it even really begins.

Incase you have been living under a rock recently, Microsoft just launched "Bing" its new search engine which is a significantly better search engine than Windows Live. It has been said that Bing is almost as good as google. I thought it would be tough to get people to switch from Google to Bing when the products were similar, but Google just upped the competition by announcing "Caffine", their new search engine architecture.

I couldn't see Bing successfully dethrowning Google before, but with "Caffine" which is significantly better than Google previous engine, Microsoft has no chance.

I think microsoft will prevail. Google has been losing market share this year and microsoft is gaining marketshare! :O

Since when is 2nd place = losing? They are beating Yahoo and every other search engine besides Google. They are beating every console besides the Wii. 2nd place does not mean they are the losers.....

Speaking from a market perspective you may be talking some truths...BUT I could care less about profits and "company ownage". All I care is from the user percpective...

From a user perspective, Zune > Ipod. Hell anything is > Ipods. The lenghts I will go in the future to avoid Itunes and scroll wheel.

Otherwise Zune HD is going to undercut Ipod Touch in price and features... so its safe to say that form a user perspective Zune HD > Ipod touch even before Zune HD comes out.

Also Xbox 360 is the most versitile console this gen that provides a wonderful experience for least $$$. These are all MS wins...
