This is even more confirming by FF8's opening week. Highest ever in Japan but much worse legs than FF7.

1- If u consider a game great or not based on sales, u missed on alot of great games 
2- A lot of people didn't play RPGs before, but bought FF7 because of the hype and regret doing so 
3- FFVIII IS GREAT

I don't judge quality on sales, some of my favorite games sell like crap, but the guy before me was using the "3rd highest selling FF" arguement :P I'd much rather go with the Metacritic score of 90, which is the lowest out of the post-FFVII days (not including FFXI of course). of course everyone have their own opinion. Personally I actually liked FFX-2, I even enjoyed more than FFX. But the public seems to think of VIII as one of the weaker entries in the series...

You judge games based on Metacritic!!! Dude that's even worse, u wont believe how many great games got alot of bad reviews (legend of Dragoon comes to mind)
What public? Alot of people even think FF VIII is the best FF ever XD
You not liking FF VIII is fine, but don't say most people agree with you.
In fact most hate FF XII

Who said I use Metacritic to judge games? I just used it now because it was supporting my arguement :P
I didn't say it was the worst, just one of the weaker. It's probably The Spoony One's fault that it seems hated to me at least. People follow that guy like he's some sort of god, and he ripped on FFVIII for four+ hours xD

I'll admit that I've always wanted to play them but unfortunately I bought the PS1 remakes :( and I can't stand the load times. BUT I did recently purchase a DS so when I get paid next week I'll buy IV and Chrono Trigger.....I might have to grin and bear playing through VI PS1's remake but until I play them I won't pass judgement. IX and XII however suck in my opinion and fail when compared to VII, VIII and X of course once again this is all my Opinon |
Why not make good use of that GBA slot and buy the FFVI port on Ds, it has a far better translation then the PS1 port.

The sound is a little off but get yourself some headphones and it doesn't seem as bad
