suikoden ds... its pretty good. spent 40 hours on it already and still got a bit to go. it has a good story and there are 108 recruitable characters to get which will certainly keep you busy. However i will point out that it is quite a linear game.

fire emblem and valkyrie chronicles are also good bets. i got all 3 endings in valkyrie, which took around 20 hours

Just to correct this for the OP, youjiro means to say Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume, not Valkyrie Chronicles. It's an excellent turn based strategy game.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
