Forums - Gaming Discussion - Best Buy price matching new games to Gamestop used prices

That is an excellent idea. This might force Gamestop to lose some of the margins they are getting on used games. BestBuy will not be making much on their games though.

Considering most of the used games at gamestop are often only 5 dollars below msrp, it's not much of a loss at all. And most importantly, they are going to rip people out of gamestop's stores to buy at BestBuy.

It would cut into their margins on games, but just as GS uses the "$5 off new for a used game" sales strategy to keep consumers buying from them, this same used price sale matching could steal customers right back.

I don't expect to see this widely implemented or on a permanent basis.

If this is true I am going to have a field day since I have a gamestop and a best buy right next door to each other.

How's the return policy looking like? Because I have a bad habit of buying  used PS2 games, finishing them in a couple days and returning them to gamestop for another used game

Best Buy is good about returns.  I don't remember their video game policy since I've never returned a video game, but I've seen open items for Xbox stuff sitting on the shelves at reduced price and I returned a video card I opened a few months ago and got the full amount back (which really surprised me).

MY old room mate use to work for them. OT had a killer discount. but best buy has a great return policy.  Honestly it doesn't take much to get all of your money back.  When i bought stuff I was unhappy with he use ot tell me to just take it in and they will give you a gift card with the amount or al of your cash back.  he was right everytime

this is actually just one store in Utah ( unfortunetly not the store I work at, but it is only 15 minutes way from my store). I will probably be going over there to do most of my game shopping now :)

This is amazing! But if Best Buy starts cutting into Gamestop/EBGames profits too much, I think EBGAmestop would cut used prices even lower AND offer less for used games. Those guys play serious hard ball.

Yeah, this is what I was talking about with Gamestop losing some of their margins because they would most likely respond to this if used game sales lowered for them.  They would lower their used games prices and thus lower their margins.

Non-returnable items
Some items are not able to be returned, including:
  • Opened computer software, movies, music and video games can be exchanged for the identical item but cannot be returned for a refund

thats crazy, Gamestop has some pretty good prices on used games. and for Best Buy to match them with new games....
