Best Buy testing price matching of used games

"Why buy used when you can buy new?" asks a new Best Buy retail display discovered in West Jordan, Utah [via CAG]. According to the poster, Best Buy will offer new video games for the same price as used equivalents from GameStop and GameCrazy. With GameStop's used prices at least $5 cheaper than retail price, shoppers are guaranteed to get a small discount on every new game at this Best Buy location.

It's currently unclear if this is a nationwide Best Buy policy, or if it's simply a localized test. We've contacted Best Buy for more information, and will update the story with an official statement. Until then, let us know if your local Best Buy is also participating in this program.

I'm guessing USA only...

I guess the main reason is that if you play the used game for a few days and find that you don't like it, you can get an exchange or store credit.

That is an excellent idea. This might force Gamestop to lose some of the margins they are getting on used games. BestBuy will not be making much on their games though.

Oh wow. I hate the Best Buy in my area, but I'm going to start shopping there now.

Interesting experiment. Boy does it suck to be broke.

Pixel Art can be fun.

The return policy is one of the kookier rules of buying used at GS. Basically a free rental service if you abuse it.

But I think the whole idea behind that is to get consumers in the GS "loop" where you turn in your old games and continue to buy used games from them.

$5 off is not worth buying used at all. For that little, I insist on eating the extra cost and giving the developer/publisher their due, not GS. Or better yet, just wait until the game goes on sale.

How's the return policy looking like? Because I have a bad habit of buying  used PS2 games, finishing them in a couple days and returning them to gamestop for another used game
