Forums - Gaming Discussion - What should I get, PS3 or 360? (From a Wii owner)

The only two games I'm currently interested in on HD platforms are RE5 and FFXIII; the latter is exclusive to PS3 and with the 40GB SKU just announced, I'm leaning towards that. But the only factor for buying a cosole should be the games you want to play on it, not its failure rate or multimedia capabilities.

Don't ask people here. PS3 owners will recommand own system, same with X360. Ask yourself. What genres you value the most. How about HD movies etc. etc. No magic here. Noone knows better than you. It's like with cars and womens - you are the only one who know the answer.

I really wanted a PS3 at launch, but couldn't find one. I got a 360 in January, and I was more than satisfied. Over time, what the PS3 offered didn't matter so much (negative press may have had a hand in this).

I got my Wii in June. I honestly believe that this is the best option for those who can afford it. I don't feel I'm missing out on anything. I will buy a PS3 when MGS4 hits. I'm a technology junkie.

i have a wii and 360 and to be honest recently the wii hasn't been switched on - only got the 360 in August so had Gears of War and GRAW2 to catch up on then along came Bioshock, Halo 3 and with Orange Box getting released next week I cant see it getting any play time soon.

Not buying it because it may break is kinda like getting the chance to sleep with Kylie since her breast cancer and not taking the opportunity cos you're scared incase you damage them.

Just give the 360 plenty of ventialtion and treat it properly and i'm sure you'll be fine.

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

I've thought about getting either system, but with the way the PS3 is dropping in price, i figure i should be able to get a used PS3, or a new XBox360 premium next year within my price range.

I'm leaning toward PS3 solely because of the Blu-Ray player, however, i like the games on the XBox360 better. If money wasn't an issue I'd probably go with the XBox360 because neither HD format has won yet. And when one of the two does win I'll probably be able to pick up a player for $150 or less.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I only know half a dozen people whose bought a ps3 in the last quarter but ask them all whta games their getting and it's never a varied response, always Resistance Fall of Man or Motorstorm.

I'll get one but i'll wait until next year when the big hitters come out, anyone who has a wii should know there's nothing worse having a new console and very little games to play on it.

I am also a Wii owner that is still undecided about getting either a 360 or PS3. (I will probably get one of the other Christmas 08)

I don't really care which hardware I get, it is all about the games. 80% of the games will be on both systems. Both have a ton of good games out now, or in the next year. It all depends on the games you like to play. Just make a list of exclusives and pick the lineup you would rather have. Easy as that.

Personally, I would wait until the RRoD is confirmed to be fixed, if you are going 360.

I went with Wii60 and am very happy with my purchase. I am hoping to eventually get PS3 though. But it really is the games that matter. Maybe people should name their top 4 or 5 games they recommend for the console they recommend, and you decide which has the more attractive games to you.

On my 360, the games I most enjoy and recommend would be:
Bioshock
Dead Rising
Gears of War
Halo 3

I also got Eternal Sonata, but haven't played it yet. But it looks awesome

Hawk I agree with your other 3 so i'm curious - is Dead Rising worth getting (only had my 360 since August)

Maybe I should wait until January 08 and then make another anaylsis.

Unless you have a game or two that you're dying to play (in which case you'd already know what console you wanted), this is honestly your best move.

Prices on consoles can only go down and game libraries can only go up so unless you need to buy one right now, you may as well continue to wait and see how things shape up.  The 360 is getting good JRPG support and if its current library is an indication, it will continue to do so.  As for the PS3, it has a few as well but beyond WKS and FF, the ground is shakey on future support.

Also understand if FF is a make or break game for you because it's very much looking to be PS3 exclusive.   The one thing I would caution you from is picking the console for a single game as $400-$700 to play one game is a bit too pricey I think.

If you absolutely have to pick now, the 360 is a safer bet with a bigger library.
