The correct term would be:

What will be the percentage of market share that Sony will hold by the ending week of October?

I see it as no more than 17.2 unless one of the other consoles really drops.

Is this another accusation of bias?

Market share doesn't grow or shrink very quickly, all 3 consoles are on a relatively steady path at the moment.

I think he's just asking where everyone thinks the PS3 will be, marketshare wise, by the end of October.

Its not too hard to work out...

 - Wii will sell around 1m in next 4 weeks (* approx)

 - 360 will sell around 700k next 4 weeks (*)

 - PS3 will sell around 600k next 4 weeks (*)

(* - feel free to replace with your own numbers...) 

Worldwide totals:

Wii - 12.12m + 1.00 = 13.12

360 - 11.51 + 0.70 = 12.21

PS3 - 4.89 + 0.60 = 5.49

(Total = 30.82)

...

Marketshares:

Wii - 42.6% (42.5%)

360 - 39.6% (40.4%)

PS3 - 17.8% (17.1%)

This also takes into account any increase of PS3 sales due to 40Gig release.

If PS3 sales don't reach these levels - say only 350k are sold in next 4 weeks: market share holds around 17.2%.

 I wasn't trying to be that rude...I was honestly wondering if he was one of the many who think because, on our site, as he says, the PS3 market share isn't rising, that our stats are purposely incorrect or something.  Even though market share doesn't work like that.

PS3 - 820k (about 205k a week)
-Big uplift in EU due to basically a $250 USD price cut if you consider the 40GB + the 60 going down $150. With PES coming the last of the four weeks, and Lair earlyer their should be some great insintive. Japan should see sales around the 35k range after the cut, with railfan, lair, HS, all schedualed for this period. The US should remain fairly steady until the last week, when the 40GB is out along with Spiderman 3 (Blu-ray), GH3, R&C, Stranglehold, and the Sipsons game.

Wii - 750k (about 188k a week)
-Wii should see slight drops all across the board with PS3 price drops coming in the next 4 weeks and no big games tell later in Nov. Their should be a good sugre in Japan the last week with SMG, but the other than that look for the wii to seem slightly human the next 4 weeks.

360 - 580k (about 145k a week)
-The 360 will drop like a rock in Eu with the PS3 having such huge price drops. I think we will see 4 to 1 ratio over the next for weeks their. In the US the Box should remain strong behind the hype of H3. I expect it to hover just above the wii and do quite well the last week with GH3. In Japan the 360 will be back to it steady 3k pace.

I ajusted the base sales for this week then added my predictions.

Wii - 12.23 + 750k = 12.98 (42%)
360 - 11.61 + 580k = 12.19 (39.4%)
PS3 - 4.93 + 820k = 5.75 (18.6%)

PS3 400k- price cut will have little effect, still much too expensive in EU
Wii 1M - MP3 hitting Europe, Super Mario selling like crazy, Table Tennis release and others
X360 800k - Halo 3 mania will continue until early next year

Wii - 13,23 (42,7%)
360 - 12,41 (40,1%)
PS3 - 5,33 (17,2%)

Wii - 12.23 (42.5%) + 660k = 12.89 (42.5%)
360 - 11.61 (40.4%) + 400k = 12.01 (39.5%)
PS3 - 4.93 (17.1%) + 550k = 5.48 (18%)
Total - 30.38

The PS3 pricedrop WW will have an impact mainly on 360 sales. I expect this to happen over the next 3-6 months with the PS3 battling totally with the 360 and the Wii quietly building up huge sales over the same period as well.

By the end of '07, I expect the PS3's market share to be close to 20% with the 360's coming down from the current 40% to 37%.
