looks like EA sports active is undertracked
1.8 million by end of june. leaving about 500k on store shelves according to the sales numbers.

Why does that indicate the title is undertracked?

i guess at the rate the title is selling, half a mil isn't too much on shelves.  it just seems like a bunch of larger boxes to store on shelves.

Funny story: I've seen EA Sports Active at a store which doesn't even have a Wii section. Their Wii merchandise consists of two copies of Sports Active, a couple boxes full of plastic wiimote shells, and a half-dozen $20 Wii games in a bargain bin.

This same store has full sections dedicated to selling PS3, 360, PSP, and PC games. I guess Nintendo pissed in the manager's corn flakes at some point. Or he's trapped in 2005 and still thinks the PSP will drive Nintendo out of the handheld space.

So if you consider that every store which doesn't even sell Wii games has two copies of Sports Active sitting on the bottom shelf somewhere, the numbers make sense. ;P

I don't understand how companies can lose so much money with such big games. Gheeze.

It's just that simple.

It would be very interesting to see what would happen to the industry if EA would go bankrupt...

What a strange story. I guess the shop owner just doesn't like money...

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

What exactly did they lose money on?

Too expensive game development:

I see. Although the increase in R&D could also have something to do with making new games to work with M+, Natal, or Sony's wand perhaps?

Also, how do you increase advertising by nearly 33%? That's huge!
