PS3 Slim Unboxing, The Video!
You know the difference between pictures and moving pictures? It's the moving part. We've already posted PS3 Slim unboxing pics. Here's the unboxing vid. Enjoy!
Tabulator: PS3 Slim and Phat sized up
Looking at the differences in specs in this way, we can see that less has changed in the transition to Slim than between some variants of the original system. Which is impressive enough for us to try to overlook the loss of our beloved Ethernet cable.

PS3 Slim: Mockup vs. reality
Click for more pictures of the real Slim
Now that we've seen real pictures of the actual PS3 Slim (can you believe its real? The answer is yes. Yes, you can.), we thought we would compare it to the other PS3 Slim we've seen so much of -- the mockup that we saw again and again in retail listings and fake circulars. Above, the real PS3 Slim and NeoGAF user cakefoo's final mockup image.
The fake is the one on the right. To put a fine point on it, cakefoo totally nailed it, to the point that we're wondering if he had the real thing on his desk as a reference. To put an even finer point on it, the logo is slightly bigger on the mockup, so it totally doesn't look anything like the real one.
It's also really close to the early box image we saw -- but we can probably attribute that less to a prescient/detail-oriented Photoshopper and more to this box image probably being real. In fact, this box image and the in-production shell image were probably among the references used by cakefoo.

UK retailers report PS3 shipment cutoff
We can only speculate about the reason -- you may expect the next shipment of PS3 systems to make it to retail to be Slim, or a cheaper model; however, given recent history, we're going to conjecture that Sony is planning to release a new model with a higher price, and doesn't want to waste any more time building the "cheap" systems.

Who's Leaking PS3 Slim Info Now?
Allegedly, the French, as a purported screen shot from retailer Micromania's product database shows the oft-rumored PlayStation 3 "Slim" redesign. If this listing is the real deal—it's not reflected on Micromania's web site—it would confirm a long-standing rumor.
That shot, hosted by Total Manga and via NeoGAF's marathon thread of PS3 Slim speculation, could be easily faked. But the details are inline with recent chatter about the mythical console redesign's leaks. Micromania supposedly listed a September 1 arrival date and a €299 price point. That's cheaper than the current €399 model, which has been the target of retailer price drops over the past few weeks.
Of course, previous leaks are just as much confirmation as this rumored listing. There was the Amazon.de product listing for the "PS3 Konsole Slim," a listing which didn't last long before it was pulled.
There's been plenty of circumstantial evidence surrounding a console relaunch and revamp, with talk of Sony ramping up PlayStation 3 production in Taiwan and a July delivery date of the rumored console variation.
Of course, one of the more obvious signs that Sony was prepping something beyond the norm of its original PlayStation 3 design were early leaked pictures of a shell, one alleged to be the PS3 Slim.
With previous rumors of a PlayStation 3 price cut coming in the fall starting to come true at select retailers, it's starting to feel like we're on the cusp of some sort of official announcement. With Gamescom kicking off next week and Sony holding a press conference next Tuesday, we're expecting to hear something there.
Of course, we expect that to be prefaced with leaks from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe PR, a hastily written story from Japan's Nikkei newspaper and maybe even a leak on the PlayStation Network.

PS3 Slim to Cost 260 GBP?
Console to arrive in time for Christmas according to reports.
UK, August 4, 2009 - You might have thought you'd heard the last of the PS3 Slim stories – well tough luck, because the torrent of rumours is unlikely to cease until this year's GamesCom.
UK broadsheet The Telegraph is rumouring that the slim-line SKU is to be announced at the Cologne show later this month – and is as bold as to detail some of the console's specifics.
The PS3 Slim, according to the report, is to come in 40 GB and 80 GB flavours, with a price point starting at around 260 GBP (which translates as 440 USD at the current exchange rate – though with the unique exchange system employed by the videogame industry, expect it to come in well below that figure if The Telegraph's musings are true).
That would mean that the new system would undercut the existing PS3 model, which currently carries a 299.99 GBP price tag.
The Telegraph cites the ramping up of production of PlayStation components in the Far East as potential evidence for the new console. If you're sick of all the PS3 Slim rumours, you'd be well advised to stick your fingers in your ears and keep them there for the next two weeks.
80GB PS3 Discontinued in Japan: One Step Closer to the PS3 Slim?
A notice supposedly leaked from retailer 7-Eleven (which sells video games in Japan) requests that orders of all 80GB PS3s cease this Sunday, and all in-store displays of these models be taken down—"at the maker's request".
If true, this presents at least two possibilities: Either the 160GB PS3 is finally headed to Sony's home turf, or they've got something else cookin' (wishful thinking, perhaps).

Sony Ramping Up PS3 Production For...Something
According to Taiwan's DigiTimes, Sony have recently "placed significant orders for key Sony PS3 components" from local manufacturers, waaaaayInteresting. above the quantities they normally source.
They say it's enough parts to produce one million PS3 consoles in the third quarter of 2009, which is apparently twice as many as were manufactured last quarter.
DigiTimes' sources then specifically mention that alongside those "key components", shipments of time division synchronizers, also used by Sony in the PS3, are waaaayyy up as well.
What does this all mean? Well, either Sony are expecting a significant increase in demand for the currently not-that-in-demand PS3, or...well, they're building an all-new PS3.
I know which of those two scenarios I think is more likely.

German PS3 Slim Listing Now Has Picture [Update]
Things are getting more interesting with this PS3 Slim rumor. The German Amazon.com site featuring the listing now has a picture of it, and it looks a lot like rumored PS3 Slim sightings from before.
Again, same caveat applies. Retailer listings of unannounced products should always be considered suspect, no matter how much everyone's talking about them or sending them around.
Update: This is a f—-ing fan-made picture. Not uploaded by Amazon itself. Disregard pretty much everything I said above.
