Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Brawl V.S Mario (Who will be the bigger title)

In one of my other threads somebody brought up they thougt that Brawl would be eclipsed by Mario Galaxy. So I decided to create a thread based on that question.

Mario Galaxy and SmashBros:Brawl are poised to be the two biggest titles released leading up to Christmas. Both titles carry a massive instilled fanbase and both titles are the best selling franchises on Nintendo's GameCube. Two of Nintendo's most successful franchises pitted against one another to duke it out for our dollars. Who will win?

I think Galaxy has a chance of becoming a very big seller this fall I doubt it will over take Brawl day one or even over its entire lifespan. Brawl is one of the few online games being released on the Wii this year and that alone will give it an edge. Galaxy also seems to be an unconventional Mario game which inturn makes it a loose cannon. The unconventional innovative style of gameplay may not appeal to as many of theestablished base while Brawl is remaining completely true to its roots. Will innovation (Mario:Galaxy) or familiarity(Brawl) wi.

Also keep in mind that both Snake and Sonic are expected to be in Brawl one of them already confirmed. These two characters are to be joined by a third , Nintendo stated about 3- third party characters would be playable. They will inturn attract gamers who may have passed by Brawl. Sega fans for example will be inclined to take the fight to the litteral level pitting Sonic against Mario. This will give Brawl a bulstered position in the industry.

Also release right before Christmas can't possibly be seen as a downer. Where as Mario is recieving a release about a month in advance. The last minute Christmas rush and the fact that kids will not have Brawl likely before Christmas increases the chances of it being bought as a gift exponentially. In the end that alone will bulster its day one sales opposed to Mario's.

I think that Brawl will be far more successful then Mario:galaxy what do you think?

obivously, both will do better than their predecessors, but im counting on galaxy because of the casual factor that mario has, especially this gen (mario party).

Brawl better at launch
Mario better overall

Brawl is being made this time around to be very casual friendly. So I honestly think Brawl will win lifetime by 1.5 mil.

Galaxy in my oninion; SSBB doesn't include "Mario" in its title, that's bound to put many ( mindless ) customers off.

I think the main Mario franchise has more appeal than Brawl... it's not fair to compare Smash Bros Melee vs Super Mario Sunshine because the quality gap in the games is huge...

Brawl is more of the same, albiet the - perfect - more of the same but Galaxy I think brings a lot of new stuff to the table and really 'refines' the Mario 3D platformer more than Brawl is defining the Smash Bros style.

I think Galaxy will appeal to more people in that 'new' audience that Nintendo touts than Brawl will, however Brawl will appeal to more people due to the multiplayer smash aspect.

Either way they are both going to be huge, and I'm for Galaxy taking #1 this year all because of Bee Mario.

I disagree, people will see the front cover and not only will Mario be featured as this largest icon on it, but people will also recognize Pikachu etc etc.

There are a couple reasons why Brawl will be more casual friendly this time around.  Some points are not strong ones and frankly not worth mentioning (ie. You can use any type of controller depending on what kind of player you are).  The reason I see Brawl as being very casual friendly is because of the 5 modes of difficulty on Adventure Mode.  And speaking of adventure mode, there has been a lot more time and effort put into it.  It will be longer and I personally think casuals would enjoy Adventure Mode more than hardcore gamers.  There have also been rumors that the physics engine is less responsive to sudden/slight movements, thus allowing exploits such as Wave Dashing and L/R cancelling impossible.  It is only a rumor Ive heard and this is not to say the game won't appeal to hardcore gamers too.  In fact, I think it will to a great degree.
