Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I've plugged my Wii on a HDTV!

No, No, No, some people give some bad advice. Probably cause they don't own a Wii and want to talk trash. Wii will look fine on a HDTV if you use Component cables. I personally have the Nintendo brand components. Beware though some games look better than others for example Mario Galaxy Looks gorgeous on my 50" Plasma screen while resident evil 4 looks only ok. so yes component cables make a big difference.

I have a 44(?) inch Sony Bravia, and Wii looks great with component cables. As has been mentioned, make sure your tv is set to Game mode. If that isn't offered, check with the manufacturer to see if they have any other solutions.

Good luck!

What make and model of tv do you have? My Samsung has the 120 Hz feature and if this is on, it creates very bad lag in games. Uncharted looks horribly blurry around characters and the reticule. If you have a "Game Mode", turn that on. Game Mode makes sure all settings are normal and most features that ruin games and that create lag are off.

The cable should not be doing anything since in the case of the Wii, it's analog either way. Now, someone mentioned that some TV's are slower at taking analog and converting it to digital and this is true as well. In fact, every TV needs atleast a millisecond to do this, it just all depends on how fast or slow your tv is at handling it. That's why I never buy off brands like Vizio. They have all of the features and tech in the screen and so on that Sony and Samsung have, except their tech in the electronics suck. Such as the HDMI switcher, converter, over the air tech and so on. They don't worry about the little things. Sometimes their refresh rate is a little slower as well.

My Wii looks fine and is pretty lag free. Heck you can't even play Guitar Hero with 120 Hz on noe that I think about it. You would have to go into the options and change the timing to a hainous level.

I connect my Wii on a 42" FullHD SonyBravia through a scart cable and it plays fine

If the Wii still looks horrible with component cables it's because you have bad TV or settings. If it lags it's probably the TV and not the Wii's fault either. Though, a couple frames here or there is probably not a big deal unless you play rhythm/fighting games.

Uh mine looks fine on HDTV using cables out of the box

I've seen something similar to this once with someone who had a (really) awful HDTV ...

It was a cheap Chineese LCD HDTV that did a very poor job scaling the 480p signal to (IIRC) 720p, it was slow at upscaling (so it had to buffer frames and was always a couple of frames behind), and the actual screen had an awful response time. The end result was a blurry mess that had somewhere between about an 1/8 and a 1/4 of a second lag.

Sounds to me like you got a cheap HDTV.
My Wii in 480p looks amazing.

I own all of lastgen systems as of October 2008. (Finally got a Dreamcast)

I own every currentgen system except PS3.

I use component cables with a 23" Samsung HDTV and a 37" LG HDTV, and despite jagged edges it looks great. Resi 4 and TP were the worst offenders when it came to jagged edges, but some parts of TP (particularly boss fights) looked stunning.

Yeah, Wii looks terrible on an HDTV (even with component cables).

You must have one bad HDTV.

Looks great on my 117" projectorscreen, sure not as good as my PS360 does but it look good enough without any of the problems the topic creator have.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)
