Most people purchasing a PS3 know of the Sony brand and were probably big fans of the PS2. With that said, I don't think most people who purchase it will care. However, $400 is still a lot of money and Sony isn't bundling anything with this, so you're still looking at $500 when you're done which is still stupidly expensive.

Sure it'll move consoles, but people need to think logically about this. It ain't about to save Sony from what they've done to themselves.

Since we were talking about whether the PS2 BC issue will be clear in the 40 GB model's packaging, here are the box and console pictures (from ps3forums). The third picture has a warning about that.

Well you can hardly blame Sony for not putting a big sticker in multiple flashing colours on the front of the box saying "not PS2 software compatible". I think what they have done will suffice, it is boxed and says "IMPORTANT" in big capital letters.

Well, that settles it I guess... I'll be getting a 360 to play RE5. I'll just get it used in 2009 and not have to worry about BC issues because original Xbox games weren't that great anyway. If the only way Sony is going to sell their product at a decent price is if it's dumbed down then there's no way I'll purchase from them.

If BC is important, get the $500 package, if not, get the $400 package, if you want to play PS2 games, get the PS2 ( soon for $99 ).
Most people wanted a cheaper PS3, there it is.

Good to see that Sony isn't dicking over Europe only. Those of us who are stateside appreciate getting a chance to eat Sony's **** just like our European brethren.

I do not like the idea of this 40GB model.

Like I said in another thread, some people just can't be pleased. You have the option of a cheaper ps3 with no BC, or a more expensive ps3 with BC. Either option is cheaper than the ps3 cost a week ago (in the EU). Would you rather them have kept the price at 425 GBP?

Even in the US, the 80gb model with BC will still be available, with a game packaged in, and it will most likely by $499 once the 60gbs run out.

Don't complain about the 40gb model, because it's not the only option! If you'd prefer BC over a lower price, then get an 80gb. That's why it's there!
